Up and down votes were basically nerfed in favor of posts and time online. They still play a factor, as you can see with users like Dustin and RC, but their influence is very weak.

If all I see is my subjective view of reality, then why should I care about my assumption that other consciousnesses exist? And if I were able to emotionally accept that logical conclusion then I should be able to say that (here's the exaggerated hypothetical) if I were given the choice to exterminate the human race in return for having all my dreams come true in a virtual reality type world, that it'd be a no brainer question and I would quickly choose myself over the rest of the species.
