This is one of the few times challenger has made a convincing argument. Though I hope Turkey is right about there being ways around having to choose one over the other.

Serious / Should non-STEM majors be required to learn algebra?
« on: November 27, 2014, 01:47:49 PM »
I hear a lot of complaining from people about how they're being forced to learn certain math problems they'll never use in their lifetime. The other side of the argument is that math helps you practice logic which can be applied to many other things.

I'd like opinions from STEM and non-STEM majors.

Damn, Dustin ain't so bad afterall.

Only because being name called on the Internet isn't comparable to trying to get someone to go homeless. Couldn't sleep with the guilt.
If this is your way of saying sorry, then apology accepted.
As long you don't assume there isn't any room for improvement in the way to act towards people here.

I doubt there are enough schools that don't care about their kids for it to make too much of a difference to regulate curriculum to a high level. Yeah there will be schools that will teach creationism but super religious people aren't going to become scientists anyway. Because regulation can cause inefficiency, it's really not that big of a deal for the federal government to get super involved.

And why is sleep so hard to do when I want to do it but so easy to do when I don't want to do it?

http://www.gallup.com/poll/166787/liberal-self-identification-edges-new-high-2013.aspx

You have the low-mental social ideologies (religion and equality) and then you have the higher-mental technical matter (science and economics). Both parties have a monopoly on one of each of these categories (democrats having equality and science and republicans having religion and economics). Because it takes a greater depth of knowledge to value egalitarian values over religious and to understand scientific matters over economical, helps explains why there are more conservatives than liberals, if you assume there are more low-intelligence Americans than higher-intelligence Americans. The need to have all four of these criteria probably explains why no party can exceed an average of 50% of the victories. Those at the top of society that hold this system together use their influence and power to make sure both sides are well balanced (the likelihood that the country just so happens to be split right in half politically for a consistent period of 50 or 60 years is extremely small).

Am I being coherent right now?

And yes, I know it's a bit more complicated than just 'equality and religion' but you know what I mean.

I'm apparently an INTJ.

I'm the smartest person on the forum. . .

So. . .
Top three

Goji and Turkey might have you, but it's hard to tell because they're not as active as you are.
Goji and Turkey definitely have me when it comes to mathematics/science.
I want to say that the multiple intelligence theory is a thing, but I also want to say it's just there to make people feel better about sucking at school.

Actually, you guys should bear that in mind; try not to let anyone use you for your skills if you don't believe in the cause. You'll end up unhappy that way.
That used to bother me so much back when I was a socialist.
You have to make compromises with the rest of the human race, sure... but, uhm, so what is your outlook now?
I've been trying to figure that out.

I feel confused that you're not defending the government. If you become a famous politician when you get older, you're not going to throw away all the opportunities you'll get for supporting larger government so that you could please the populace. Or are you just pretending to be anti-gov to confuse us because you've secretly been manipulating us this whole time?

What class?
Intro to Engineering
Philosophy
Chemistry
Psychology
Calculus
Quite the Renaissance man.
Pretty typical to take a wide variety of classes in America
But not in other countries?
I wouldn't know, but I've heard that the brits don't have to take any gen eds, they jump right into their major.

I don't actually have any arguments against free speech other than it can cause some instability.
I'm quite happy to have limitations on things like incitement and classified information.

And maybe, maybe certain forms of sedition.
What about verbal bullying in schools?

2579
Probably had a good reason
Now you're just being an idiot.

Intentionally, I suspect.
