The government should be there to provide a sort-of "net" against substantial risk.

If it begins to become a nanny-state, or overtly oppressive, it begins to threaten fundamentally important things and runs the risk of becoming bloated.

Oh, and it should also be sovereign.
You avoided the bulk of my question though. Do you think education, military, infrastructure, and other large government services can be better suited in the private's hands?

Your last point gives me a WTF considering we're the only state in the union to achieve an A ranking in science standards and most sciences are pretty dependent on math.

Number 9 is also the first I've heard of this as monogamous relationships tend to be the norm here.
I stayed in the Bay Area, maybe that's why? Or maybe because my cousin's friends (it was my cousin's wedding) are all super liberals who came from art school?

Serious / What should be the responsibilities of the government?
« on: December 20, 2014, 03:14:55 PM »
I could say anything and you'd never believe me, but honestly I'm starting to look away from welfare as a solution to help the poor. It was this issue that's been making me think more libertarian like. My new rule of thumb for what responsibilities the government should have are based on whether or not the service can be privatized or not. The only problem with that is the fact that everything can be privatized and the only role the government would fulfill is law making and contracting (though I'd love to hear some arguments on whether or not a privatized military would be more effective than a public military). But that leads to the issue of which services are more efficient and effective when either privatized or in the hands of the public (the military being a prime example). If tolls for roads and highways were more efficient and better designed, a privatized road way system would seem much preferable to a public one (and more fair since richer people tend to use the roads far more than the middle class). So I guess the main question here is which services do you think are better suited for public hands over private hands and vise versa?

k welcome back
I don't know why you posted in this thread, you're one of the least tolerable users here. If you posted more I'd bother to add you to the mute list with challenger and nuka.

Did you get laid?
Everyone at the wedding was like 30 years old (I'm 18). I was drunk flirting with a couple of girls but it didn't go anywhere. I didn't really meet any people the rest of the time I was there.

Things learned:

1. Yosemite = California's little New Hampshire
2. Californians are horrible drivers but nice people
3. Guns aren't that scary (I went to the shooting range for the first time and it was a blast)
4. It's hard to fish and kayak at the same time
5. California is full of gay people and pot heads
6. Infused vodka mixed with fruit punch isn't that bad (at the wedding)
6.333. I had 4 or 5 drinks before I got drunk this time
6.666. No hangover
7. You can't do anything if someone steals your seat on the plane
8. Asians have no concept of forming lines (not racist, that's actually a cultural thing for them)
9. Non-monogamous relationships are a big thing in California (when "cheating" is okay and acceptable within relationships)
10. Californians are exceptionally bad at science and math

If I make this list any longer you guys will start posting tl;dr so just consider this an AMA from here on out

Further proof reports literally do nothing

Even when you report yourself

Alright I'm ready to get off this site for a good long while

Ehh change my mind

For the record, I had meatspin gifs here for a good five-ten minutes, and I even reported myself twice.

Won't need to remember to be happy when I go to Cali tomorrow morning.
Where in California are you going?
Staying in San Francisco, but really we're going all over the state.
Ah, sounds fun. San Francisco is nice, I'm in the central valley right now. But kind of bad time to leave, you hear about the huge storm that we are getting? Some of San Franciscos power went out because of it.
I was hoping that it would be over by the time I get there tomorrow (later afternoon)

Nuka did not ask for action to be taken against Camnator.
Oh he didn't? So he just reported Camnator's posts and said what? "What Camnator said offended me, but please don't ban him"

holy cow. i go inactive for like a week and i come back to see this?

R.I.P. Camnator. The God of Booty.
Drama here has always resurfaced itself once it dies down. The last big thing here was Noelle's Star Wars cannon debates. But it keeps the forum interesting and without it the forum would be much less active.
It became a joke really.
People got really, really angry over that, joke or not.

It's fairly obvious here you're punishing someone AFTER adding in this new rule right?

Because by this logic, Kiyo should be banned for revealing personal information during Anarchy. Challenger should be banned for the personal information he's shared about me. Hell, even Nuka has shared shit about me that I wish was not shared, and half of it was made up lies. And there's a whole list of other times when someone has shared something about another user that they wished was not shared. You do realize by riding Nuka's sympathy boat and altering the rules for him, you're leaving open a wide gap right?

I'll just have to remember this thread when it happens again. If only I could get the rules changed for me if I cried to you about it, but I haven't made any sob stories yet, so I guess that's why.
If users have shared personal information about you, report it.
I'll probably PM, reports literally mean nothing by the amount of times they're ignored.

So then you should also be banned for spreading false information about me.

Hypocrite
I didn't post about it on the mains, bub.

Revealing private information and then crying about it can get someone banned? That'll be a new weapon I'll have to remember. Challenger's only done this to me a few times. You're next buddy.

I'd suggest not.

Prepare for a war.

EDIT: Okay I'm sorry that was pretty cringe. Still, arguments are going to start flying.
My hammer is ready.
I have ban immunity. Tomorrow morning I'm taking a plane to California and spending the week there, should be busy the entire time.
