And we all agree here and now that selling any of it would be foolish. Haha! Some good news today folks! Blog news aside, I may have just found myself some land!
Talking to my Uncle, who owns 160 acres of land. He says he'd like to keep it in the family. And, he's already been talking to my mother about it. Point is, my name is up for the owner of the land. When he's paid off the mortgage at the end of next year, he's going to add my mother into the paperwork as an owner, and if I so wish, myself as well. Shared ownership. You folks may not know the size of an acre, but know that 160 of them is fucking big. Big enough that there's a lake on the land he owns. There's some technical loopholes to work around with laws and stuff, but for all intents and purposes, in the next year, I may have land to call my own. 160 fucking acres of it! 9735
The Flood / Re: What fascinates me« on: November 08, 2014, 09:52:37 AM »
Well, technically, most of the stuff we see is still around today. You'd need a powerful telescope like Hubble to actually see the distant points of light that are long, long dead.
But on that subject, I'm going to talk to you about supernovas. Because, quite some time ago, in ancient Japanese history I believe, in their records, for a period of about two weeks, there was no nightfall. Eternal day for two weeks. The only recorded supernova in human history, ever witnessed. And at that point the original star was already dead. So, today I'd like to talk to you about Betelgeuse. This is, for some reason, the only star I remember. Probably because it's the star I first learned about beyond our own. In the middle of orions belt, a great red supergiant, impossibly enormous compared to our own little star. This star is what sparked my fascination with the sky. And this star is dying. It might even be dead in fact. Because astronomers have been watching it. And in fluctuations in light, they can tell, that at some point in time, Betelgeuse was going through it's dying stages. So, sometime, in the near future, the second recorded and viewed supernova will be seen by human eyes. And for that I am happy. To see the light, of a star, from 430 light years away, something so enormous and powerful, a light so bright that from 430 light years away we'll have a period of no darkness, because a second sun will be in our sky. The after image of a dead star. Imagine that. In death, so much power is released, that from that far away, even across all that space and that void, light will shower us like a second sun. And, in a way, it's sad. Because that's the last I'll ever see of that star. That will be the last light I ever see, from the middle star in the constellation of Orion the Hunter, a constellation that has been known to human kind for centuries, a constellation that has been known to me, for approximatly 17 years of my life. All those years, all those millenia, that the super red giant Betelguise endured, to finally wink out of existance. A moment, so small, and so precise, that had I not been born at the time I was, I might not be around to see the death of it. I might not know about it to appreciate what my eyes will see. But there's a funny part to it too. I'll get to watch the final moments of this star, the last light it ever produced, pass me by, before it winked out of existance. Very much, like my life. You burn bright and proud, and then, like a candle, you blow out in the dark. But in both regards, you leave something behind. For a star, it's the power and raw fuel to bring to life more stars. And with your life you leave behind your actions which will shape the future to come. Shape the lives of countless people around you, give life to fond memories, to good days, to smiles and moments that can never be replicated in time again. Very much, like the last light of this childhood star of mine. 9736

Honestly, to me, after three, the series just took a nose dive down a cliff for me. Do I really want to come back to it?
Granted, if it's post Reaper/Crucible firing, then that means they'd have to choose a canon ending, which they were against in the first place. Then they'd likely want to run damage control, or could, with all the bits and oppurtunities they missed. Seriously, they had so many good oppurtunities for moments in 3 and they just dropped the ball. The point is, do I really want to do that again? Do I really fucking want to invest my time in characters and a story, and then, when the big finale comes up, have everything stepped on and tossed around like an angry fucking toddler in a lego pile? Personally, no. Because what's left of the series? There's either post crucible firing, in which case that becomes a damage control mess, or there's a prequal, in which case we already know what the fuck happened. 9740
Gaming / Re: Halo 2 terminals had been shown!« on: November 07, 2014, 05:53:55 PM »Well, it seemed like 343i were trying to make Chief have more of a character in the games in Halo 4, but unfortunately that seemed to require ignoring the characters of everyone else that showed up in the Campaign. I hope 343i brings Blue into Halo 5 for good, doesn't do anything stupid with them, and keeps their personalities true, even if their art team is set on making armor like the "Yo dawg, I heard you like optics?" gear Linda has.Green armor for everyone made sense with the Mk V & VI, but with Mk IV the Spartans had much more time with the armor, so them making personal touches through different paint coats is rational.Remember when canon stated that all Spartans had identical armor? It twas a simpler time, indeed. Then we needed customization in MP, and suddenly now all Spartans must have their own personalized armor sets that reflect their personality. Because, that's totally how a real military functions. There where various attachments that I just looked at, shoulder pieces, chest pieces, helmets, and I said, "What in the flying fuck are these for?" The EVA helmet, for instance, which is a big space dome for astronaut spartans, in the third attatchment, gets a god damn metal bar right across the mid section. The fuck was the point? How does this help in any way, shape or form? And in regards to what you talked of, I agree. I think it'd be fantastic if Halo sort of stepped out of combat missions. Maybe, while a mission was loading, you were sent into a free roam sort of room which relates to the past mission you were in, and there's your buds and teammates there working on things, as a result of the previous mission. Talking, or fixing stuff, getting ready and so on. At it's core Halo has always been a shooter, but I think it'd be great if just once, we tried something a little different. As I talked of long before all this, the early concept art of Guardains or Halo 5 painted a sort of dark, underworld vibe to me. Parts of the Haloverse where blurred lines merged, interspecies joint cooperation and cities, and Locke would have been a fantastic character to go into these places with, since he's ONI. Potential Inserrectionist holdouts merged with the covenant remnants and species, an overall darker tone to things, another set of eyes beyond chief's black and white view of the world, where there are clear cut sides. 9741

7 rings, one ring has a radius of 25,000 light years. All seven can cover the entire galaxy.
All seven rings can be simultaneously activated at their big home base and the space station that created them, the Ark. Each ring can be activated individually through using a key native to the particular ring. When fired, the Halos release a nueral pulse, that is part time real space, and part time slipspace I believe. The pulse can be tuned, like an instrument, to affect or focus on specific targets to various degrees. But when fired by the forerunners, they tuned their banjo strings to 11 and decided to give the audiance a show they'd never forget. In which case they did, because they were all dead. 9743

I'm content in the knowledge that it isn't something I can fight. It comes with life itself. I hope that on the other side, if there is one, that there's another realm of sorts, something beyond our simple earth bound mortal perspective on things, like a transcendance of sorts, or merging. But I can't say it until I've seen it. So for all intents, I assume that the chance I have here is all I have. So, with this chance that I have, I will do the best I can to make things better for those around me! And along the way, see if I can enjoy my own ride. 9745

Then we needed customization in MP, and suddenly now all Spartans must have their own personalized armor sets that reflect their personality. Because, that's totally how a real military functions. Hey believe me I hear you loud and clear. This has bugged me since it started. Like I said, I too enjoyed Halo 3's versions, to some extent. They looked, to some degree what a spartan would wear. But reach started the trend of straying away, and then Halo 4 just fell over. But, you know what would be fucking cool? How about, rather than make a character identifiable through armour, why not make an actual character instead? In that sense, I mean that Spartans are people. And they have their tells, just like everybody else. Halsey knows every Spartan II by heart even with their uniform armour on. She knows their body language, their feelings, everything. So, why not build really fucking good characters, and give them a personality, through words, and subtle actions that we get to know over time? In that sense, they could use uniform armour, but with different bits and pieces of course to help people initially identify, but the characters would be so strong that people would see past the armour. And in that, you'd gain a character 10x more loved, more valued, more cared for and concerned about than what Palmer currently provides. Than what all the various members of majestic provide. Oh, but tis only a pipe dream. But, a man can dream, no? 9746
The Flood / Age Based Demise« on: November 07, 2014, 04:17:39 PM »
Little more thinking here. I had a friend of mine stop by today. Stopped in town to go to the hospital because he thought he broke something. Sat down with him for a coffee, and talked a bit. And, he's feeling a little blue. Because we're looking at the inevitable here.
Let's face it, no matter what you do, who you are, death is always on your head. Always there, just waiting. But here's the thing. I'm 22. And at least once a year I bump into an event or two that has me close. Just a few ticks out of line and I'd be dead surprise big not. This year it was a respitory infection and getting hit by a truck. Last year was sliding on the ice towards an oncoming semi. I was so fucking close I could've nicked my driver side mirror against it. Point is, I've danced around with death a little bit. And I accept that. Most of all, I'm aware that it can show up, at any time. So, I'm okay with that. But what if it doesn't? What if, I live a longer life? What if I make something, start a family, and all that, and one day I have to face the end of the road willingly? Personally, I'll wait and see. But this friend of mine, doesn't have that option. He's 70. The average male lifespan nowadays is 80-85. So, let's say 15 years. 15 years for me is a long time. 15 years, when you're 70, isn't. It goes by like a snap. And that's what's got him down. Because, no matter how healthy you are, no matter how non average you are, and let me tell you this guy is non-average in terms of being in shape for his age, considering he works alongside me, is the fact that random things always get you. Personally, I don't think he'll kick the bucket anytime soon. But it still doesn't change the potential for things. 15 years, to a 70 year old isn't enough time. Especially not with what he's up to. And so the question is, why bother? Why bother fighting for that small sliver of time left, when you could just take a shortcut? I have no answers. I have no thoughts that allow me to say anything remotely cheerful, or helpful. Because this a different inevitability than the kind that I accept. I accept being fucked over by the random throes that life has to offer. I will do the best I can, but I know that I can't keep dodging bullets forever. But my friend, is at the end of the road, or at the very least, near it. And who wants to to face the end of the road? Who wants to turn back, on their regrets, their triumphs, their failures, and leave it all behind? As the doc said, "as you get older, it's only going to get harder." Good motivation there doc. But, he's right. It never does get any easier does it? So! That's why I offered the best I always can. It only gets harder when you do it alone. But, so long as I'm still knocking around, being alone will not be an issue. Remember that gentlemen. All the stubbornness in the world might do you some good. But you have to accept the inevitability that you can't do it alone forever. So when that happens, I hope you have someone to stand with you. Or, you have the kindness to stand up for them. 9747

My sister is blind, her husband has ADHD, and my mother has enormous baggage on her head to the point of being emotionally unstable. My father's an alcoholic with insecurity issues.
No real mental disorders though. Just difficulties. I don't know if you would call or contribute a mental disorder to being a dysfunctional family, but, in a lot of cases nowadays, there are a A FUCK ton of dysfunctional families. Which, sort of makes sense, considering that roughly 50% of marriages or more, don't work out. Keep in mind, I say don't work out, and not split. Sometimes people fight to hold things together and it only gets worse. But, to answer your question, I am very familiar with having to step around tripmines. But it's all good. My sister fights and works alongside me despite having a quarter of one eye functioning, her husband seems to be fine at rolling along, I don't talk to my father when he's drunk, and I fight my mother's tendancy to swing around and get angry with humor. But, you are right however. Non-functioning families, either through disorders or troubles, is downplayed quite a bit. 9749
