The Flood / Re: Just talked to a guy who has $500M invested
« on: November 21, 2014, 01:40:10 PM »
500 million you say?

Divide it in 3.

Sister gets 166 million.
Mother gets 166 million.
I get 166 million.

Take my own 166 and divide it further. Keep 5 million for myself. I could probably live my entire life from now to death off 2-3, but I'd pick 5 just to be safe.

The remaining 161 million?

I'd take a road trip with some of my own money to deliver it personally to friends of mine after doing the math and splitting it up nicely for them. Counting the folks close to me, each and every friend of mine would get about 20 million.

So my question is, have you ever had that secondary impulse? Did you listen to it or not? And, most of all, what's the biggest thing that ever came out of listening to that little whisper? Good or bad?
The only sort of meaningful intuition I'm aware of is moral intuition, which people like me are woefully lacking in.

I think the best definition of intuition is cognition without or before reason, and in that case I don't pretend to realise myself having it in any form. The problem lies in confusing it with impulse, which I certainly have.

In answer to your question - I don't know. If I do exercise intuition on some level (which I'm absolutely sure I must do) it certainly isn't a substantial part of my life.

Well there we go. Danka.

Art is just human emotion expressed in different forms. Those emotions cause us to feel emotions.

Thank you. Now I am no longer obligated to write several paragraphs. You make my day!

Let's talk a little bit about something outside your range of familiarity! Since I can ask anything, I'm legitimately curious now that I think about it.

You know that funny little thing folks call intuition?

That secondary whisper in the back of your head? It's not actually a voice, but a feeling that you get around or over something, and your head translates it into words? Everybody has it, and some are more aware or sensitive to it than others.

So my question is, have you ever had that secondary impulse? Did you listen to it or not? And, most of all, what's the biggest thing that ever came out of listening to that little whisper? Good or bad?

« on: November 21, 2014, 11:00:45 AM »
Well, if they won WWII, then it'd be safe to assume that there wouldn't be anybody to really stop them. If they overthrew all the other rival powers, chances are they'd muster enough strength to take what they wanted and nobody could do shit.

It's an ugly picture.

The Flood / Re: Anyone else feeling under the weather today?
« on: November 21, 2014, 10:43:59 AM »
This weather is pissing me off. You folks are getting all the snow I was hoping for this year. Instead we've got the freezing fuck cold winter we had last year.

And I guess today just feels like giving the middle finger because early in the morning, it went above zero degrees, it fucking rained on us, and then went back to -20 before the sun came up. Everything is as slick as virgin or so they would say.

And I woke up with something bordering on a migraine.

Feeling under the weather puts it rather mild.

*Smitherman 30 intensifies*

Now, here's the interesting thing. You can start to see the threads beginning to line up in the background no? China's been talking about building a space elevator for a few years now. Mining for rescources has a steady yet slow opposition to it as environmntalist views become more prevalent. Space travel while being wonderful and all that is terribly expensive and incredibly wasteful in terms of fuel. Private civiallian sector spaceflight is now becoming a thing.

And most of all, scientists just landed a probe on a passing by comet.

Eventually, when the economy and businesses are ready, a push to make a space elevator will be made. And that's a good thing. Because it can accomplish so much. As you said, probes and sattelites could be launched from the top in low orbit. Imagine if scientists got a functional system set up to send mining probes to asteroids and comets? And the probes came back and docked at the space tether? Imagine if the new engines they've been working on, and the new engine built a little while back that stumps scientists because it breaks our currently known laws of physics came to pass?

Commercial flights into space would act as a tourist fund to the first country that built the tether. Space travel and anything related to in atmosphere travel would benefit so much from even one. Personally, I think this is our future. Building space elevator is critical to us as a species.

But again, it's no easy task. On paper, and simplified, a space tether is basically just a rope with a weight on the end of it, held straight because of the speed of the object it rests on as it rotates.  But the perspective is enormous. This is a super structure that reaches up into space. Can't just build it in one shot certainly. It has to be modular, piece by piece.

But, most importantly, if a space elevator where to ever be built, it would have to be protected. Laws would have to be passed keeping it, or possibly "them" out of conflicts and not a target of attacks. Because the damage if one of these things fell would be unparralleled. But, not only would laws have to be put in place, but they would have to have the tightest security on the planet.

Imagine the joy in the eyes of some ISIS asshole on the ground when he saw that tether and decided that he'd like to blow it up? That cannot be allowed to happen.

But like I said. Hell of a lot of hurdles to overcome for us. But if we build even one, then the game changes for the better. Personally, I don't particularily want to be alive for some of the uglier phases in our future. But a space elevator is something I hope to see in my lifetime.

We get one of those built and you can say for sure that as a species, we'd done something right.

I'd rather cut my dick off then give any of you my phone number.

There is one person on this site with my phone number. I lol.

My most sincere apologies

I didn't hand it out like free candy. And even then, I seriously considered how potentially stupid I was being. But, so far, I never got a call from them. And they didn't abuse the fact that I gave em' my number.

It's a good thing I never got a call from em' either. I only gave the number away because said person was going through a shit time, and if they had nobody else, I was the last line to call.

6 days a shit
1 day's okay

I feel so fuckin' lazy just hanging around like this. No jobs to work because it's so fucking cold and we aren't getting any of the snow that everybody else and their grandmother seems to be getting.

I'm closest to my sister. Only person in the world I can trust completely. Never let me down, has never hurt me in any way, and always listens. As far as things go, I'm my little niece's best friend. And if I can, I'm going to try and be there for her future, because she'll need somebody watching out for her.

My sister's husband is a good friend to me and I owe him a fair bit. I intend to repay above and beyond what I can. My mother, although we have our disagreements, has calmed down over the years, and she gives me my room and space to do as I wish while supporting me. I'm getting to know her brother as well and we're getting along fine.

And I even keep up with my father, who from time to time, has things to share that surprise me.

Overall, things are decent.

« on: November 20, 2014, 08:51:03 AM »
Why hasn't Admirals or somone already made this thread?

Anyway, how about the fact that the Covies may have reverse engeniered Halo's tech to only kill humans, and on that note, I thought Halo killed sentient life in a completel different way than what Nightfall discribed. Someone care to fill me in?

Lastly what do you think those worms actually are. I highly doubt those are lekgolo,.and I doubt the flood would only react to technology the way those worms did.
The subject of that Second Story was the mechanism in which the element was dispersed.

They are indeed Lekgolo. Although the interesting question is why the Forerunners locked them away underground, only to be released when Alpha Halo was destroyed.

Even weirder, is that humans were mining the element that killed humans.

10 bucks down on Inserrectionist plot.

Sign me up if you want.

If you can get me talking, I have a sort of habit of talking in disjointed segments. My head's a little runaway. I connect the dots at different points it seems. But, I'm sure with a little bit of digging, I could bring up some stories to tell. I've seen some things. Not much, but enough that my world is far apart from all of you folks's.

And of course, if you want to ask me philosophical shit which I ponder on an almost daily basis, nock yourselves out. I'm a little slow on jokes, but I can have my moments. I don't get pissy at folks in any regard either. Easy to get along with I believe.
You were already on the list of potential podcast members.

Oh well shit. The day's arrived when I precede myself. Fuck. Now I feel left out of the loop.
