The Flood / What'd I miss?
« on: July 25, 2015, 12:42:43 AM »
Three week shift done. On break for a week before I go back out. Got home an hour ago.

Did I miss anything neat?

Feel free to ask about my adventure so far. I've got some stories to tell. Goin' to sleep in a bit. Will answer whatever I miss in the morning.

5372
Good luck, man. Wildfires are serious shit.

I don't think they'll put me on the front lines. I have no fire fighting experience and obviously you need to be experienced when you're dealing with forest fires and wind direction and all that.

Doesn't mean I can't drive a truck or work on a dirt line though. There's not just firefighters up there either. There's all the people giving them support and stuff. Anyway. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for reasurance though.

You could say I'm a bit cautious of this. Smoke for my lungs and all that. And fire, of course. Anyway. Should get down to business now.

Bon voyage friend.

The Flood / Hey folks, I'm signing up for volunteer firefighter work
« on: July 06, 2015, 02:21:55 PM »
I've been thinking about it for a few weeks now. On the news today I heard that the red cross and our military is getting involved with firefighting up north in my province. The fires up in the north of my province are going out of control alongside the ones in other provinces. There's 600 active firefighters right now and the military is sending in another 1000 people to help.

So, basically, I'm going to pack my shit and head out tonight to sign up for whatever volunteer work they have going up there. They might train me up in firefighting or sign me on to work with a shovel, or hauling water or something. But, obviously, the people up there need help. I feel obliged to.

So, guys. As always. It's been fun. I'll see you all after satan kindly leaves my home alone.

5374
Read the whole article though, it's sorta scary.

No it isn't? They want to avoid content they deem distasteful. Who cares?
Mmhmm. Read the whole article.

I did. There's nothing "scary" in that article.
I find the final 284 words worrisome. Religion irks me.
Yeah, screw people for believing in something greater or having a more strict moral code.

I'm sorry. I just have to ask here. How does any religion have a "stricter" moral code over regular morals?

Well you have things like opposition to premarital sex.

And you're implying that a non religious person can't have that in thier repertoire because they chose to?

How about drinking? Or smoking? I see a whole bunch of religious folks that do stuff like that. That's a pretty loose moral code if you were to ask me.

Pls no. I don't want mah A Team Spartan Waifu's to die.

5377
Back to your subject, however, you are aware that it's always been like this, correct?
Sure. Doesn't make it right, though. I'm not asking everybody to become a moral philosopher.

And of course, I'm not saying that everybody can. And I'm not even advocating that it is right. But is it something that we can fix, currently?

No. Our system doesn't have that kind of support structure for something like that. Of course, not that it stops you from trying. But, frankly, you're preaching to the choir over here Meta.

Which probably just makes this a well disguised rant about stupid people then.

Carry on then.

Except that I wasn't talking about the violence. I was talking about how two guys, got into a fight over kool aid. And they shot each other.
"I'm not talking about violence, I'm just talking about violence".

Le motherfucking retard

Quote
That fits pretty well into the definition of "fucking each other over for petty shit."
Which I said men do less than women.

I wasn't talking about killing or hurting people. I said "fucking people over" as in telling an embarrassing the secret about someone to get back at them. That's mainly a woman thing.

That's why I said it's obvious men are violent. I'm not talking about violence.

Which is why I said,

Gee

It's almost like

THATS WHAT I WAS FUCKING SAYING

Quote
But I wouldn't say that there's a disproportionate gap to who fucks each other over and why. Which is why I'm still waiting on some mathematical evidence that women statistically screw themselves over more than guys do.
If you can find a study on something like that, I'll give you a million dollars.

Quote
Which, I don't think is likely because we're all human. Physical sex doesn't do much to alter human nature.
Except it does, because of gender roles and evolutionary traits.

I like how you're going in circles here. You're taking everything as a shade of black or white or you're taking it to mean absolute concrete literal meaning. Or just conveintly forgetting that there's a whole paper trail of literary proof in our discussion here. And of course, your all time favorite party trick, acting like a mirror.

But hey, we're going off topic here.

Your original point was, "Would a woman die for another woman? I've never heard of that."

You know what? I agree.

"Women are like snakes to each other, more often than not."

Now, this is true. But the same could be said of men so very easily. So what does that really mean? Most people, regardless of sex, are assholes. And, every once in a while, a decent person comes along. They can be a man, or a woman. Just like an asshole can be a man or a woman.

5379
Well, here's an interesting question. What if ahem, say, somebody chooses not to vote because they believe that no matter who they pick it's like sorting through piles of shit. One has corn in it and the other is greasy. But they're both still piles of shit.

Not your point, I take it. Just the point I got hitched on.

Back to your subject, however, you are aware that it's always been like this, correct? Two distinct groups. There's the common mass, which are the majority, who may or may not be educated to varying degrees.

And there's the smaller, intelligent minority, inventors, philosophers and that whole lot. They've been the people who've dragged us along as a whole over time with their respective inventions and campaigns and morals.

What else can be said here Meta?

Being a parasite works so long as there's a host. We're quite natural at being parasites.

Women are like snakes to each other, more often than not.
That goes both ways (like a bisexual :^)). I know plenty of dudes who've fucked the other over.
On the average over petty things? Women do it far more.

I remember reading an article. Two guys shot each other over kool-aid.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2012/06/argument-over-kool-aid-leads-to-gunshots-two-hurt/1#.VZq6XPlVhBc

Now, I don't know about you but I've never heard of women doing any sort of that kind of fuckery over petty things like that. In fact I've never heard of women doing even close to half the things that guys would do to fuck each other over.

If you can find me some fancy scientific report about who fucks over who more, and for what, then you can say that women fuck each other over more than guys do on average for petty shit.

Personally I think both fuck each other over pretty even.

It's just that the two have different methods to their madness.
A woman will have sex with another woman's husband just to spite that woman. That's something men don't really do.

And oh wow, some guy shot somebody else. When did I ever say men were less violent than women? I'm not talking about violence or people fucking each other over anyway, stop trying to morph the subject to fit your SJW beliefs.

Women don't have camaraderie. That's the subject of this thread.

Except that I wasn't talking about the violence. I was talking about how two guys, got into a fight over kool aid. And they shot each other. That fits pretty well into the definition of "fucking each other over for petty shit."

The Flood / Re: What are some retarded laws about your state or area?
« on: July 06, 2015, 11:08:49 AM »
I wouldn't go so far as to say it was retarded. But it's a right pain in the ass to work around.

When sub-dividing land for the purpose of selling it to someone up here, a new law passed a while back forces 10 acres. When sub-dividing you are not allowed to legally sell less than 10 acres.

Which is a hindrance because 10 acres isn't cheap, and most people up here don't want to sub divide 10 acres.

5384
Yeah.

That's titanic waiting to happen.

Just, well, you know. Something small here.

A quick question. What would you call a normal human being? Can you give me a very strict and refined set of parameters that fill this portion of "normal" on the meter?
Straight, white, Christian male. Duh.

No, but okay. Let your liberal bias skew your vision of reality.

Ya'll didn't answer my question man.

I'm not really sure that you can define normal. Because overtime, "normal" was governed by many different standards. Plus, if you add every single form of human interaction, action, and reaction into the mix, and apply it to the sheer number of people that currently exist, well, technically everything that we do is "normal."

And of course, Nuka's statements ring true as well, if we're going to wander in that particular direction.

Bah. Don't let it be a bother Verb. I learned when I was 19.

Hell, most kids around here know how to drive a tractor when they're 8 or 9. Think of it this way.

When you reach a point in your life when you need a vehicle to help you out with travel or other stuff, you'll get it.

Hey hey brother, cheers to driving success! I recently had one too. Nobody ever taught me how to drive standard but last week I got a chance to drive a vehicle that wasn't automatic transmission.

After half an hour I learned the whole deal with some study and care and now I can drive whatever the hell I feel like.

I never really got too hung up on the whole birthday thing. It's just a marker, really. A way to keep track of things. But of course, you don't want to hear that now do you?

Otherwise you wouldn't be talking about it and feeling down about it. You want some kind of significance to it and more than that you'd like somebody to acknowledge it. To show up out of the blue with a smile and take you out and about in acknowledgement that on this once a year day, it's your birthday, and this friend of yours is here, just for you.

Well. I'm afraid that personally I can't show up and say hello to a new face and be all cheerful. But from me to you, a stranger out of the blue.

Happy Birthday, stranger.

I'll just say this on the matter. On all accounts of religion, no matter what kind, I like to let my own eyes do the talking for me. I'm not going to just hop on any old bandwagon just because somebody else says I should.

I'd prefer to see something with my own eyes and to actually experience it before I ever even consider the merits of it, when we talk about religious matters. You're welcome to of course, go with whatever floats your own boat.

The Flood / Re: If there were no repercussions...

And nobody was going to miss him
Why does this even matter? Is the value of your life determined by how many people will miss you when you're dead? That's retarded.
The dead are not alive to feel remorse for their death, meaning your action doesn't cause much suffering. If there are mourners, your action caused a great amount of suffering.

You're retarded.
Who cares? Your life is yours, and nonexistence is worse than anyone feeling bad for you. The idea that we have to depend on others for meaning is so annoying.
the lack of a family to mourn the victims death frees the killer from thoughts of guilt
i have no idea what you're going on about

Honestly if I was dropped into a situation where I was told to kill somebody with no family, no friends, nobody, I sure as fuck wouldn't be abstained from guilt.

Imagine it. Going up to someone, who went through what you could say was arguably a pretty shitty life because they never had anybody, and then you kill them.

They went through all of that through their life, to just to be put down?

That's not guilt free at all. That's fucking depressing.

Have you ever met people with no friends to speak of or any family? Anybody that likes them? Those sort of people bring out so much pity.
I suppose that's a matter of perspective.
Hopefully I could kill the person inexplicably and without them even noticing before they're already gone, I'd rather not think about their last thoughts.

I don't think too much about what their potential is or what their goals were, those were truly only relevant to themselves and now that they're gone there is no one to be sad over them not being fulfilled. If anything though, the person would likely go on to continue living a mediocre life. But that's just my two cents.

Not if you helped them. Not if you made the effort to give them a hand when nobody else would. And, define "medicore."

By all means, please create a general label that sums up the entirety of what a medicore life is. But, before you do, what if the person in question, who supposedly has a mediocre life, is happy?

Then you can't call it mediocre.

I don't know about you, but if I was ever dropped into the circumstance in OP, I wouldn't take that chance. Not a damn way in hell. And I sure as fuck wouldn't let that person keep living a shitty life either. I'd feel obliged to help in any and every way that I could.
I always felt that there was a disconnect between people who are truly happy and those who perpetually fool themselves into chasing their desires. The majority of which are the latter. But I guess there's no way for me to determine that just by looking at someone.

In the end, I still don't feel much sadness from ending that happiness if the victim hadn't even realized their death. Heck, in a way it makes me feel happy that I let their life end on a happy note.

Then it's a rather telling indicator of your willpower. A bit like the internet. Drop somebody in a space with no repurcussions and the worst comes out in most people.

Of course, this isn't an ultimate judgement either.

I think the people here advocating that they'd kill, actually wouldn't. Because they don't feel any weight. This is just a hypothetical.

When you actually feel the weight of your decision sitting there on top of you, that's when you flinch. Like it or no, most human beings, save for psychopaths, killing somebody is a traumatic experience. It gives nightmares and long lasting residual mental imprints.

Anybody here saying that they would is kidding themselves.

You know there's a little gland in the center of your head that produces a very illegal and powerful psychedelic?

That little gland becomes active when we sleep and is part-wise responsible for our dreams. But, when our body undergoes the process of shutting down, that little gland goes into complete overdrive and keeps neural activity going several minutes after all bodily functions have stopped.

It floods our brains with that drug, which, most notably, is known by all users of it to produce time dilation. So, in our dying stages, in one last hurrah our brain goes on an eternally long ass drug trip.

I don't know about you, but technically you could say that you're wrong about the rot in the hole statement. That of course, comes after we're officially dead.

But I find it funny that we'd develop such a mechanism concerning death.
