Strange how fast time changes things.

If anything at all I think it's a keen representation of my mood these days.

That and the environment in the background reminds me of fall up here.

Maybe I should pick something more cheerful one of these days.

Credit to breadloaf for spawning my question.

This relates to pity movements as well in regards to so called underdeveloped 3rd world countries/poor people and such. I don't question the need for advances in technology upgrades in less well off portions of the planet but I question the mindset of less well off people being supposedly miserable.

Like the picture up above for instance, in all of it's pity party 1st world shaming glamour.

To most modern people this way of life is unheard of. And, to most modern people, it's an unthinkable, unknowable experience that's most likely miserable.

"Savage," if you will. But, only from their point of view.

What about the other side? Where the life they have is normal? To them being naked on a continent that on average is 10 million degrees of nope at all times is average. Having water in such conditions is average, everyday life. And, as we know, when you live an "average" every day life, it's just the norm, and therefore, acceptable.

So, my question here is, do you think a complete modern, 1st world societal overhaul with all of its trends is neccessary in countries like these for the well being and happiness of people? Keep in mind, I'm not advocating against the usage of technology to improve certain conditions and functions like medical care or water access, or, access to information.

To sum it up in short, do you have to be completely modern to be happy and considered in a state of well being?

I care because?
I'm not them.  I live in a developed world with different sets of issues and problems.

You also have to take into account their own perspective as well.

Granted, the struggle up there obviously isn't a picnic. But has anybody ever considered that africans have a little bit of a loose dress code?

And, that maybe some people are happy with what they have? To our eyes from a "civilized" standpoint we place pity on them because of their conditions. But from their own eyes their life might not be so shitty to them in comparison.

If I didn't have a trailer to tow behind me in order to get drinkable water, then I'd actually have no water to drink at all.

I guess the vehicle and the trailer knocks off some priviledge points for me.

But then again if I didn't have those I'd actually be dead due to dehydration.

You know what you should do Verb?

Make a game that plays on your honesty.

Make a couch potato class.
triggered

Not being insulting here. I just lump gaming into being a bit of a couch potato. Calling it an "average gamer class" sounds lame.

Couch potato class sounds better.

Come to think of it. I want to see an rpg based off gamer stereotypes.

And it's not really a matter of telling the truth or lying because later on the game will probably ask what class you are.

Yes. I am a warrior most certainly and truthfully. I carry claymores around one handed all day every day and prefer to use axes like they're throwing knives.
that's actually a pretty good point

I suppose, if you wanted, the most you could say at that point, was, "Which class would best describe you in this scenario?"

If you wanted to do the whole "I like being honest routine" on your part.

But then it just blends into the role playing aspect again. When a role playing game gives you questions like that, or, me at least, I pick the sex based off the class. Warrior classes tend to be dudes, mages and sneaks are more likely ladies.

You know what you should do Verb?

Make a game that plays on your honesty.

Make a couch potato class.

It's weird when guys play as girls and vice versa.

If someone chooses to play as someone simply because they find them sexually attractive, they can go fuck themselves.
What if it's for other reasons though? Non sexual based, I mean?
Then that's fine.

Like, maybe there are different story options if you play as a girl. I can understand that.
Or maybe you're just tired of playing as the same guy, and would wonder what it's like if you changed.

Or maybe you're playing a game like Street Fighter, where you happen to be good with a female character.

But generally speaking, if you're playing an RPG, and the game asks you, "are you a boy or are you a girl," I just prefer to, you know, tell the truth.

Well then at that point that's just your own particular tendancies. Nobody's gonna bust down your door if you pick the other option if it explicitely states and asks, "Are you a boy or girl?"

And it's not really a matter of telling the truth or lying because later on the game will probably ask what class you are.

Yes. I am a warrior most certainly and truthfully. I carry claymores around one handed all day every day and prefer to use axes like they're throwing knives.

It's an RPG. Role Playing.
Plus females generally have more detail and attention put into them, whereas guys are just generic looking.

Femshep is significantly better than Maleshep because Jennifer Hale shits on Mark Meer's voice acting.

I made a copy of generic manshep but black. He looks pissed 24/7 but it's hilarious in the paragon path.

Black manshep is best shep.

What if it's for other reasons though? Non sexual based, I mean? For example I guess, some people tend to pick options when they're there for the sake of it. Like myself.

In Halo games when given the opportunity, I always played as an Elite. In any game where I could play as something different, the opposite side so to speak, I picked it. And, every now and then the same holds true for picking a character simply to be something outside the box in regards to sex/gender.

Violence in video games (and all forms of media) can and does have a psychological impact on the player, and is desensitizing us to other forms of violence, be it simulated or otherwise.
I honestly don't think very many people deny this.

What people deny is the notion that violent video games will not only make you a psycho killer, but are the primary catalyst of violent behavior. Or that the psychological impact is anything but negligible.

I suppose so. I don't really think it's negligible, though. I can't espouse that nurture often trumps nature in the development of one's personality while also denying that the content of many kids' primary form of entertainment is negligible in that growth, though.
Mentally unstable people are the ones who're affected by simulated violence regardless of the medium. People who are mentally sound can differentiate between the two and know it's not okay to do it IRL.

Kids exposed to violence (games, movies, whatever) won't grow up to be the next Adolf Hitler.

Of course not. But kids and teens are still susceptible to stimuli because their brains are still developing, responding to stressors and figuring out what makes them go away. Conditioning your mind to relax through gratuitous violent content, regardless of the medium, is not particularly healthy.

Adding onto your little bit here, taking into account how hard of a tantrum most young kids throw and older teens rage over video games, likely leaves a lasting mark on their overall patience and temper in irl situations.

Na. They just happened to be the first thing that popped into my noggin at the mention of plants. I am a fan of my province's emblem flower though.

My step cousin's wedding was today and I decided to stay home, mainly because I can't stand my family.

Was it an entertaining, fun and family free filled day at least?

Apparantly I just slept for most of the day
That's a little bit gay

No really, I like doing shit with my time
Not wasting it like a sack of lime

Holy shit I need some food
Well that's gay and put me in a poor mood

I realise at the moment I'm poor
Not much for food around, may as well eat off the floor

Maybe I'll just go back to sleep
And count myself some sheep

But wait, I think I'll have better dreams
Because of all these dank memes

Oh, I forgot to mention that I picked up the crossbow.

This thing is badass. But it seems... Superfluous.
Like, unless it's particularly useful against a certain type of enemy, or something,

It just seems like another magnum with less ammo.

The scope works wonders. It's the game's version of the sniper rifle.

Give it a try on combine soldiers.
