I don't understand how people can fail a driving test these days

Ice roads. Taking a driving test in the winter up here is a bitch.

Gyroscopic.

With all the sick fucking people that come into my restaurant during the winter, I hope to fuck it doesn't show up in Canada. I live out of the way, but even still, travellers stop buy often, and nobody takes fucking care up here when they're sick.

If I happen to catch it from somebody in town I'd probably murder the person who passed it over. We'd both be fucked anyway right?

Can't really say. I've been out for a while too. Although the new Anarchy forum opened up to accept the flow of all the garbage. But I bet you're happy that you didn't delete that account of yours aren't ya?

I've got a couple of the buggers hanging around in my doorway. They set up shop there and haven't moved, so they can stay. They do damn fine work with flies and mosquitoes.

This raises a very good question... what would happen if plants became intelligent and struck back at us for raising them to be eaten?

Remember that movie by M Night. shama lama ding dong? The Happening? Probably something like that. Plants actually do communicate amongst each other, and some even have actual defenses like this.

There was a case in africa some time ago, where some kind of herd based animal started dying off in droves, and nobody figured things out until much later. The animals were high in number and eating too many of the plants in the area, removing more leaves than the plants could survive without. The plants began to send out spores when their leaves were rustled that stuck to animals and traveled in the wind.

When the other trees picked this up, they began to produce toxins in their leaves, and when the herd animals ate too much of the leaves, the poison buildup killed them.

Research in the last few years has also shown that plants have an actual, physical memory for things. Sounds, touch, events, and so on.

Well, you know, you can't really win on either front. Eating an animal and eating a plant are the same damn thing. Plants and animals are both living things, both of which have some aspect of feelings and intelligence.

Take your pick, eat what you choose, and be thankful that whatever it is you're eating is giving your body the neccessary energy to survive via the taking of said organisms life.

I never really got the whole high and mighty vegans thing to begin with. Just people being silly is all.

lol, I was going for LOST but I will accept this answer

It was too obvious. So I picked the real obvious choice.

The Flood / Re: What router and modem do you use?
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:30:15 PM »
The modems are always provided(forced) by my glorious internet overlords, Sasktel. So basically, one made by Westel from the 90s and a new one that just arrived in the mail but it was broken because sasktel don't actually give you new modems, they "repurpose" used ones.

As for routers, always the Linxus.

Looks great!
I'd try different colors with the background, though.

Like I said, 90% done. A few touch ups on the armour and some thinking on the background, and it'll all be good.

I made Wrex from Mass Effect. Practicing shading and all that. I think he turned out quite spiffy. Needs just a bit more work, I think.

Get a surge resistant motherboard? Spend more money!

Too many dents in the bank accounts this year. Need to save up as much as we can. Winter's going to come in and smash everything up with a sledgehammer and a sack of frozen puppies.

Plus, it doesn't help that the business programs on the computers are non transferable without paying a ridiculous fee.

11210
Get a PSU with surge protection.

See here's the thing. That didn't stop that from happening.

11211
Solitaire will stop working too.

No, I think Solitaire has something to do with it. I played five games earlier and beat them.

Solitaire being nice to me and not announcing that I have no more moves after two turns on the day that I have to tread through technical support minefields set up by my glorious Sasktel overlords and now shuffle like a madman to fit shit into fridges that won't fit.

Coincidence? I think not!

11212
I'm just waiting for the third strike on what happens today.

shit
sorry to hear

I already replaced the majority of the broken shit, the lights and their ballasts completely, got all our computers up and running, but the last mess is this fucking modem and the mess of wires. There are five fucking computer based objects downstairs, all spread around the place. I have to go through every surge bar, every wire, every adapter, every single fucking link and cable that runs to all corner of the building through haphazard holes drilled through walls in the worst god damn places.

And over the past two days I've been going through the minefield of tech support trying to get a hand from them, and there's no dice. So a techie is going to come up from one of the larger cities in a few days, and fuck knows what that'll cost.

Seriously, fuck solitaire.

11218
Fuck Solitaire

This shitty old computer only lasts in short bursts because it's motherboard has some cracked component that's leaking very slowly, and as luck would have it, this is the only one that survived the surges that knocked out half the shit in my fucking restaurant and home.

And fuck me sideways the more I get into shit the more problems I find. The surges didn't just knock out our modem, they fried a fuck ton of wires and connections which I'm going to have to filter through and test one by one. And to top all this fucking shit off, the new modem the lovely internet overlords of my province have sent me is fucking defunct.

So, all I can do is play fucking solitaire. And I really don't dig fucking luck based games.

To be half assed productive, talk about your experiences with the shit computers and tech stuff throws at you, and your experiences treading through the minefield of tech support supplied via your wonderous internet overlords.

Update 2:

MFW I go downstairs and find out our fucking sandvich board just died. I spent the last two hours scrambling to empty something roughly the size of a freezer into every available fridge we have. Here's the kicker. It's the compressor on the back that's something wrong. Got the price check on how much it would be to replace the whole thing if it's burnt out. 1200 bucks.

The Flood / Re: How much do we really own?
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:49:31 PM »
But the frame is what's titled!

So really, you don't own the vehicle then. Just the frame. Because in order to own the vehicle itself, every last part of it must be listed. So that means, technically, you're driving around in a vehicle that is largely up for grabs to anybody who wants a part from it, AND, even more so, you're getting ripped off by insurance because you're paying for the vehicle as a whole rather than the frame itself.

The slip of paper from the state saying that a 1978 Chevy Impala is titled in my name.

Yes, but that piece of paper only covers that particular vehicle in it's present form. If the engine on it died, and you ripped the engine out and replaced it, that engine would not be the original copy, and therefore it wouldn't be yours. You'd own the vehicle, but not the engine, since it's not the same engine that was part of the vehicle when that piece of paper was given to you.

Just like blood transfusions, or organ transplants. These parts may become a part of you, but they are not from you originally.
