I always see talk about why pre-ordering games is bad and you should not do it. Its always contains reasons pertaining to bonuses, paying for a game that may suck, etc

But there is one reason, one totally legit reason that I never see discussed. And that is when you pre-order a game at like Best Buy or Gamestop; you now have the ability to pay off that game over time!

Instead of forking over $60 right then and there. You can put in a few at a time and it doesn't break the bank. Say what you want, but $60 is $60. And it would be great to not burn yourself all at once.

This is the ONLY reason why I think a pre-order is a viable option.

The only times I preorder is when there is a sweet collectors edition. And even then I would only get the collectors editions of games that I know will be good. Like Bloodborne for instance.

I've made the mistake of preordering terrible games in the past (looking at you Aliens: CM) and I've learned the hard way that it's best to wait until the game is out before buying it.

you now have the ability to pay off that game over time!
Or you can just put a jar on your night table and put in a dollar everyday two months prior to the release date.
When the game's out and It's good; take your jar and get it. And if the game's shit, well... you now have a jar with 60 dollars!

Seriously, it just requires a minimal amount of discipline. But I suppose some people don't even have that...

Preordering was only acceptable when physical copies were severely limited in supply.

But this hasn't been the case for a while

The problem with pre-ordering isn't the money you're spending, it's the shit you're about to spend it on.

I don't even understand your point either, since I'm still down $60.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
It really shouldn't exist.

Pre-ordering even "guaranteed" good games before they're out is a gamble, and essentially that's what is.

Either you "win" and get a decent game you wanted on release, or lose because you've just waited months and just received a POS game because they knew you'd be suckered into pre-ordering it.

I'm not, i'm supporting a fantastic dev team, a dev team that I want to see succeed and do well in their way. I don't pre-order much, only when I trust the developer fully, I would never even consider pre-ordering a Battlefield, CoD, Fifa or anything along those lines.

Trust means jack shit, and again, doesn't justify contributing to the poor state of the industry.
All you're doing is giving developers money for nothing fo weeks/months in advance. It also shows the rest of the industry that people are willing to fork over money for nothing.

Pre-ordering hurts the industry. There's no justification.

Not buying games hurts the industry. The games industry is worsening as pre-orders fall, that does not reflect what you are saying. What it reflects is people are rightfully losing faith because companies are screwing people over.

Pre-ordering isn't the problem, the problem is simply that gaming has moved from something secular and strange to most to the biggest and most profitable form of entertainment on the planet, it's not devs making games for the true players anymore, it's companies and board members releasing games to make a shit-ton of cash off casual gamers.

Unfortunately it's called reality, it's what happens to every industry. Pre-ordering is just a way to get what you want quicker.

Not once did I say don't buy the game(s), I said pre-ordering only hurts the industry.

Game sales falling because people are losing faith is a direct result of pre-ordering.

I know pre-ordering in itself isn't inherently the problem. It's what the companies are doing because of people pre-ordering (bullshit pre-order "bonuses", day one DLC etc etc) that's the problem.
Therefore pre-ordering is bad.

Quote

That's still not a justification.
Adding to the shit just to get your hands on a game a few hours early isn't a worthwhile trade-off. All you're doing is hurting yourself by hurting the industry.

And you think that trying to get an extreme minority of people to not pre-order will help? It's the 99%, the people that don't care or understand. Not the 1% that pre-order only in specific cases, on rare occasions.

Pre-ordering supports devs outside of the major ones. If you have an issue with the concept of paying for nothing then how about you stop and consider microtransactions and too much dlc? Season passes are the worst offenders, essentially pre-ordering content that should be free or already included-that's ridiculous and has a far, far greater impact than pre-ordering a game just to take advantage of a price cut and pre-loading.

But why restrict yourself for some pointless morals bullshit? If you are going to use the bandwagon effect, originally pre-ordering was perfectly acceptable because on a single-case basis there is very little against it. The only reason you have a problem with it is because of the sheer number of people doing it. So if you want me to disregard the fact that many people do it, that's fine because that only strengthens my point.

Except with adblock it improves the internet because it makes using it a lot easier due to connections being faster and it makes it safer due to virus containing ads not popping up or showing. If you want to support a site or someone on YouTube then you could simply disable adblock for that site and on YouTube. It's under your control if you want to block site after site.

Even if that was true, it still doesn't justify pre-ordering, at all.

There's literally no good reason to pre-order games.
