Should Halo have gone the horror route?

One my favorite parts of Halo: CE was the lead up to the reveal of the Flood. The corpses and blood scattered everywhere, the insane marine with the pistol, the Flood in the distance as you approached the A-shaped structure. I think it was really well done. Would the series have done as well as a horror series?

Na. It might have done well with horror elements and well crafted segments, but not as a horror series overall.

It might have even done well with darker tones, but again, to make it the focal point of the series, it wouldn't have worked.

Unfortunately for us, any chance the series had of exploring different directions or even trying different content was dashed when 343 took the helm.

As a spin off Halo version of Dead Space would work due to the Flood. For development the game would need to be developed by a developer who knows what they're doing, otherwise the game is going to fail.
