where do you come up with your nicknames
So, I had this idea prior to challenging the Elite 4 to try to make this run more interesting for Kanto, but since the Time Capsule doesn't actually work the way I hoped it would, I'm gonna save it for when Pokémon Crystal comes out instead.Basically, upon reaching Vermilion City, a new extension to the rules would be added that would allow for alternative encounters involving the Time Capsule. In these games, it's possible to send Pokémon from the first generation over to the second—you just need to trade over something that actually existed during Gen I, and you could carry your team from Red, Blue, or Yellow over to the next gen.In doing this, the Gen I Pokémon you carry over may be carrying some kind of rare or valuable item that cannot be obtained through any other means. Somehow, I never took much advantage of this feature as a kid, even though I would've had a lot of fun with it—so I came up with this idea.Basically, after beating the Elite 4, my Silver challenge would be put on hold. Then, I would start a new challenge with the same exact ruleset on a fresh Pokémon Yellow file (or Red, or Blue. Doesn't really matter). Once I've completed that Yellow challenge, I could resume playing Silver and make my way through Kanto. This is where the rule extension comes in. Basically, for every area in Silver's Kanto that has a parallel in Yellow's Kanto, I can either walk around in the grass and encounter something normally, OR, alternatively, I can invoke Time Capsule Clause. This is a clause that allows me, for every new area, to trade with my previously completed Pokémon Yellow file. This will serve as my one encounter, but the interesting thing is this—the only thing I'm allowed to trade is the Pokémon I found on that specific route in my previous file. So, for example—if, in my Yellow nuzlocke, I found a Magnemite on Route 9, I can THEN sacrifice my one encounter on Route 9 in my Silver nuzlocke, once I actually reach that route. From there, I won't be able to get anything else as normal. It's totally fair, too, since Time Capsule trades are indeed trades—I'm not gaining Pokémon through this method. I'm losing one and then gaining one. This idea not only promotes variety, but also gives me an opportunity to use a feature I overlooked as a kid, and potentially use some Pokémon I otherwise would never be able to in a nuzlocke, like Golem, Alakazam, Machamp, and Gengar, because I don't typically allow trade evolutions. This was a great idea, and I was prepared to do it immediately after beating the Elite 4—but unfortunately, it hinged upon the idea that I only needed one 3DS with both Yellow and Silver on it to actually use the Time Capsule. As it turns out, you do in fact need two 3DSs with two separately-purchased copies of the two games loaded onto them. That's not how it was advertised at all, but whatever.I'm such a shill for Pokémon anyway, that when Crystal comes out, I'll probably end up buying another 3DS. I kinda want a new one anyway, and I'll purchase Crystal on that machine while using my Yellow file on my old device. I'm making this happen, but it's just a matter of time before the game actually comes out.
>naming your Pokémon>everNo thanks.

Has Crystal even been hinted at/confirmed?
Is waiting on RNG really the best way to get a Moon/Leaf stone?

I just got to Ecruteak. From looking it up, it seems you get a Moon Stone from your mum shopping, and a trainer on one of the routes phones you if she finds a Leaf Stone?I just don't wanna be stuck with a Nidorino and a Weepinbell for most of the game.

Yooo what the fuck really?Well shit, can I at least get the Moon stone from my mum?

Verb you seem creative with nicknames. What are some of your best/memorable ones from across the gens
Quote from: Best Boss on December 03, 2017, 07:58:21 AMVerb you seem creative with nicknames. What are some of your best/memorable ones from across the gensI actually didn't start nicknaming my Pokémon until I started doing nuzlockes exclusively, to be honest, and I made that decision some time after Gen V. I did a little bit when I first started, but all my names were awful, poorly spelled, and based on a five-year-old's spur-of-the-moment vocabulary. One time, I caught a Shellder, which I had never seen before, so I assumed that it was rare. When I caught it, I decided to name it "Lucky," but since I was five and didn't know how to spell, "Locke" was its name instead.I've always had a habit of reserving good names for shinies, though. My first shiny ever was a Rattata that I found after years and years of playing Gen II (though, I don't even think Gen IV was out at the time). I gave him a name that I'm still pretty proud of to this day: Sterling, based on his "sterling silver" color palette (which doesn't make much sense anymore, since shiny Rattata look more greyish green now), the fact that I found him in Pokémon Silver, and the fact that the word means "something of high value." It was a perfect fit. This eventually came full circle in Gen VII, when my first shiny was an Alolan Raticate. I had a pretty fun naming theme at the time (Hanna-Barbera cartoons), so I named her Chérie from Tom & Jerry, who was Jerry's love interest for one episode. It also matched her black cherry color palette. When Gen IV was still fresh, I found a shiny Geodude out in the wild, which had been my fifth shiny in general. I named it Ragnarok, which was a term I picked up when I was looking up synonyms for "apocalypse" one day, and the "rock" pun seemed to fit.He never became a Golem, though. Even though I had friends who played Diamond & Pearl, I have weird opinions on how trade evolutions should work. I don't like the idea of trading back after something evolves, because I always felt like that defeated the whole purpose of a trade.During Gen V, I got REALLY into competitive battling on Showdown, so I kinda stopped playing Pokémon casually until they nerfed weather teams in Gen VI. When OR/AS came out, I tried to make rain teams great again with Mega Swampert, who I named Balrog (after the Street Fighter character), who I still use in my competitive team to this day. I don't take competitive battling as seriously anymore, though. Weather may have been stupidly OP, but it made it fun. Now, shit kinda sucks. My shiny Hariyama in Ultra Sun is called Gautama, which is Buddha's first name. Those are probably all of my favorite nicknames outside of Silver, to be honest. This Silver nuzlocke was honestly the first time I ever went all out on creativity without using a naming theme as a crutch, so I'm glad it went over pretty well.
