I thought of a legit way Valve could let us re-sell a game

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are
Say we purchased a $60 game. We played it for a week, but by then we found we did not enjoy the experience. What if we were given a one month peroid on the day of purchase, to re-sell the game back to the developers? The catch? You can only get back HALF of what you purchased for it. So you would get $30 back, but Steam takes $10 of YOUR return for themselves as a transaction fee. (Plus it helps Steam out more too)

This re-sell ability would be up to the developers IF the game isn't a whomping $50-60 brand new.

If a game is good enough, you'll play it more than a single week or month anyways. By then, you'd lose that ability and how could this hurt? It's almost a win/win for everyone.

I was bummed that Aliens: Colonial Marines stole my $60.. I'd have been happy to get $20 back from it no problem.

Thoughts?

More proof Steam is for peasants.
A peasant could not afford to purchase a GOOD gaming PC, now could they? Look.. console games can be re-sold and the developers don't get a dime in return. This method, they still make some money and the customer gets satisfied. When GameStop sells a used game for $40.. they get all that money.

Would a peasant spend over $2,000 for one of those titan things? I seen an image where some guy has 4. Also GameStop sells games for around $1...

If they can spend that much than why is OP bitching over $60.
It wasn't bitching. But.. That $2,000 grand PC is a one time purchase. A lot of money yes.. but if I buy a game for $60 and hate it after a week.. I want to be reimbursed in someway.

A $60 game should be at least a month's worth of entertainment.

$60 is just like 24 hours of entertainment IMO.
Not for me man.

I have 240 hours logged on Space Engineers and that's only a $20. I got WAY more value out of that than I did with ACM that I paid $60 for. And that was considered a complete game, while Space Engineers still isn't finished.

$60 is a lot to just throw out for me.

Oh hey look, now all those single player games are essentially only $30 and only 20 of which will actually go to the developer.

This is super easy to abuse and will only end up hurting devs.

That's why I said this option is up to developers who charge $40 or less for their game. And Steam would take $10 from you, not the developer

Still super easy to abuse as every game that does it is pretty much 50% off all the time and it still does nothing but hurt devs.

What if the re-sell doesn't apply for discounted version of the game?

I'm saying that any game that chooses to partake in this has basically just slapped a permanent 50% off sign on their game.

The whole no used games/no resells is kind of why we have these giant 75-90% off sales every weekend and even bigger ones during various times of the year.

I'd rather have frequent deep discount sales than used games.

No, no. The re-sell games go back to the Developers. Not another player. You are getting back only half of what you paid for and you lose the game in your Library.

And this is proof that PC players are easily impressed by shit Indie games and are too poor to buy new AAA games at full price.

Are you kidding me. Some of these massive AAA games have the most shallow, cookie cutter experiences ever. And they have DLC attached to try and complete and incomplete experience.

Considering most people only play single player games for about a month before rarely touching them again yes people will be just paying $30 for their $60 games.

I know I'd abuse the fuck out of a system like that and I'd rather keep the deep discount sale system we currently have. At least that way devs get all the money for their games and Valve doesn't have an incentive to bully devs any more than they already do.

You are just saying that because you don't want to admit you can't afford Xbox Live and that you rely on Steam Sales to buy everything.
Nope, I buy what I want when my budget permits it, I already pay for the internet, why the frack would I waste my free income on something that doubles my internet costs like a useless thing such as live when I have Steam and the internet I already pay for? it's a stupid decision and you're just as stupid to agree to pay for the internet you already pay for.

You know Bill Gates probably wipes his ass with Gold crusted toilet paper, but you're not calling him stupid.
No shit, he's the genius who thought up the joke of a service that you're mindlessly buying into. there's a difference between being rich, and being stupid with your money because your parents pay for your stuff.

Skyrim is single-player and people are still playing the crap out of it. If the Developers don't want to lose out. Either make a great single-player or make the game cheaper and then that option would not be offered to the customer. I meant to say that the offer would only be for $50-$60 games.

So a small subset of games may continue to florish? Not every single player game is an open world rpg. Shit like Dark Souls, MGS Revngence, Final Fantasy, et cetera would essentially have a permanent 50% off sticker on them from release and we'd lost our steam sales in order to get this.

The reason Steam works in its current fashion is do**because of your inability to resell your games. If you want a grace period you could do something like Orings "Great Game Guarantee" which allows you to get a full refund on a game within the first week of its purchase if you pre-ordered it and don't like it and 24 hours if you didn't pre-order. A month is way to much time and allows for people to simply buy, play, beat, and return. Origin also doesn't have nearly as many sales as steam though because of this policy.

It's a balancing act and what you'd get out of something like this isn't worth the loss of our frequent deep discount steam sales. That and a return policy where valve essentially gets to double dip is fucking stupid. They'll bully devs even more than they already do and stab them in the back gamestop style.

Maybe you should do more research before buying a game if you're running into these kinds of problems.
