Why is this so black?
Now this isn't really a topic I can actually have a proper opinion on. I've beaten Fallout 3 and have about 200 hours logged into it. For whatever reason though I just can't get into New Vegas. I'm only 3 hours in but I never find an incentive to continue on with the game. At some point I'm just going to have to sit with a big bag of Doritos, A big jug of Mountain Dew and finally tackle the game.

But to the point of the topic.

In the Fallout 4 thread from a week ago there was a lot debate about what was the better Fallout game.
I liked Fallout 3 but apparently (to my surprise a lot of people didn't) So I've decided to make this thread.

Leave comments of why which game is better would you kindly.

I'm exactly the same way.  I got to the part in NV where you meet this guy called Mr House, and the story starts to really unfold, but I was so unmotivated to do anything.

Fallout NV is definitely a game with more depth than 3, better RPG mechanics, etc... but I couldn't get into it solely because the environment wasn't interesting or memorable enough for me.  Fallout 3 had all the metros, the ruined city, which took up a massive chunk of the map, the uniquely themed towns, the famous monuments, etc...

Rumor is Fallout 4 will take place in Boston, so if it implemented NV mechanics/depth into an interesting environment like that (bias because I'm from there), then I'd be sold.

That's probably why I don't enjoy F3 as much. That and the fact at first F:NV feels almost exactly the same and I was coming of just beating Fallout 3 that it didn't seem that different to invest another 200 hours on.

Fallout 3 is a better game. It has a much better atmosphere, more interesting NPCs (besides companions), and the quests were more fun. The setting was also far superior and more interesting to explore, which is what the game is about. New Vegas obviously improved on some gameplay features, and the actual quests for your companions were great. Sequels are supposed to improve things obviously.

Fallout 3 just did a better job of putting you into a post-apocalyptic setting. I am glad that Bethesda is developing the next game and not Obsidian.
A lot of people seem to have a thing against Bethesda, Especially after their recent handling of Skyrim. I doubt they care. They know Fallout 4 is going to make them bucket loads of money anyway.

I liked the weapons,  environment and clothing design more in NV. In FO3 everything felt green and gray and I think that's what they were going for, but I find NV to be more aesthetically pleasing.

HOO BOI WE'VE NEVER HAD THIS THREAD BEFORE

Look, NV is superior in just about every department, with the exception of maybe the setting. That's not to say F3 doesn't have its moments, it just isn't a very good Fallout game. The problem with Bethesda is that they value style over substance. They can't build moral ambiguity for shit, and that's all the more evident when you look into how they've designed the multiple factions within not just F3, but Skyrim as well.

In F3 you had the option of like what, two warring factions? It was basically a choice between shit, and less shit. The Brotherhood Of Stale was just "there." I'm not really sure what their angle was in the game tbh. Whereas The Enclave were essentially just the mustache twirling bad guys that Bethesda purposefully wanted you to dislike.

In NV, there are myriad different factions with opposing viewpoints and values. There's no black and white "good guys and bad guys" option. Obsidian leaves it up to the player to decide which faction aligns with their ideals, and how it will effect the various different endings to the game. That's what makes NV a great post apocalyptic RPG, and a fantastic Fallout game.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Enjoyed 3 more.

I think Fallout 3 did the radio and atmosphere much better, but I think the main story to NV was far better. Both have their pro's and con's. Now let's just remove those silly green and orange filters for the new game.

Whereas The Enclave were essentially just the mustache twirling bad guys that Bethesda purposefully wanted you to dislike.
Well in Bethesda's defense, this is the same people from Fallout 2 who wanted to gas the whole planet and wipe out like 99% of the population because they were "mutated". So naturally they're gonna be just as bad in Fallout 2 as they are in 3. Need I remind you they just slaughtered a whole vault in Fallout 2.

People seem to forget that Obsidian were the ones that made those guys insanely evil, not Bethesda.

Yeah, which shut down and they moved over to Obsidian. Guys that made the first 2 Fallout's made NV.

I don't understand why it's a "one or the other" mentality. People treat Fallout 3 like it's the scum of the earth when they forget if it wasn't even for that game, Fallout would be a dead franchise that didn't even hit the mainstream eye and get popular support.

I like NV better but I still enjoyed Fallout 3. I don't understand over the years why you either have to like one or hate one. It's stupid.
