Try loading a save.

Any plans to buy Fallout: New Vegas at any point? It massively improves the gunplay and writing.

I already own it, but yeah, same deal with Halo--I don't wanna play too many games of the same series directly after one another. I'll probably try it out, but I got so many other games to play.

Gonna try and hack that Vault 106 computer again before I head back out to Arefu.

...It's still locked. Guess it's locked forever. :-/ Wish I didn't fuck it up the first time.

Evan King tells me that the Family (the gang who keeps terrorizing Arefu) could be hiding at either Moonbeam Outdoor Cinema, Hamilton's Hideaway, or Northwest Seneca Station. Apparently, they only move out at night, so it's difficult to track them. I made sure to visit all the locations to collect their map markers so that I could fast travel to each one at night.

The only place that was at all worthy of note was Northwest Seneca Station. There's an underground path that leads to... somewhere (or perhaps nowhere) that I'll check out later. There's also a grocer that I looted. As soon as I got out, though, I was ambushed by members of the Talon Company.

I forgot to mention earlier--when I was looking for GNR, I came across a Talon Company Merc accompanied by a Protectron almost immediately after I killed my first Super Mutant Brute. He was hostile, so I did what I had to do and killed the fucker. I had no idea what the Talon Company was or what they do, and I still don't--but apparently they didn't take kindly to my offing of one of their agents, and placed a bounty on my head for it.

Three of them attacked me as soon as I walked out the grocer. After besting them all, I picked up a note that read this:

Private Contract: Kill Jacob!
Quote
Boys and Girls, we've got
ourselves another
holier-than-thou white knight
needs putting down. Here
are the details:

Name: Jacob
Race: Caucasian
Sex: male

The bounty is 1000 caps
this time around. And, for a
change of pace, they want
the head this time.

Good hunting!

Looks like I've made some enemies.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I've never actually met Mel in my 100s of hours playing FO3.

...who the fuck is Mel?

Gonna try and hack that Vault 106 computer again before I head back out to Arefu.

You can get a perk to change that later on, but it's a ridiculously high science/level perk, or you can find some note with the password on it (highly unlikely though). Same goes for broken locks, but with a separate perk and keys instead.

Outside of the Super-Duper Mart, you'll find a blonde-haired, unintimidating man who tries to mug you. You can either tell him to piss off, or give him five caps out of pity. He then runs off.

I don't know what his story is.

Ah yeah, the Talon Company. When you get to the right level, try to enter their compound and kill their commander and get the unique Occam's Razor combat knife. That way they will not bother you that much anymore, trust me they are annoying as fuck.

hey
If you want a tip for hacking computers, you can find little bits of code in between the words that can give you help, like removing fake passwords and giving you more chances, best to try for the password 3 times, and then go searching for the bits of code (Since if you get more chances, the max you can have is 4, so if you have 4 chances already and get more, then you miss out)

Also it tells you how close your choice was if you got it wrong the first time, the "1/5" or "3/7" tells you that your choice had 1 out of 5 letters right or 3 out of 7 letters right

im pretty sure the game gives you this hint though

Talon Company

Oh, them...

Great for free combat shotguns, chinese assault rifles and laser rifles, particularly if you have the Terrible Shotgun or Xualong.

"Oh, you lot again?, just in time, I needed repairs..."

Ya, I know how it works. Just messed up.

I think it's a pretty clever little... what would you call it... it's not even a mini-game, it's just a... puzzle, I guess.

A quick Fallout Wiki brings up this:

Quote
Mel is a homage to Mel Gibson, the actor who played Mad Max. In Mad Max 2 Gibson threatened the Gyro Captain using an unloaded sawed-off shotgun.

It's a little dig at other Apocalyptic-themed stuff. I swear they do this for other media as well.

All right, so below the station, I find a bunch of ghouls who are trying to cook up drugs.

They want me to help them out.

...Think I'll pass.

The Mel thing is a random event. Most map markers have Event A or Event B triggers. It's random, except certain Event As occur at Event A triggers because of the terrain.

Talon Company are a mercenary group that operate in the wastes and in DC, and are descrived as a group that will do whatever the other groups won't. You won't ever get any info about them aside from one of the lines repeated by Three dog on the radio every now and then. Expect to encounter them in great numbers on the Capitol Building side of The Mall.

They attacked you because they attack high-karma/ good characters. If you play an evil character, it"s a group called the Regulators that sends hit squads after you.

So basically, fuck these people with extreme prejudice.

They don't like good guys because good guys suck.

They're bad news, terminate with extreme prejudice.

Spent three in-game nights scouring the three locations delineated by Evan, but still no sign of the Family.

I eventually went astray and found a couple of oddities--as I was walking along some kind of dislodged road, I found some kind of rogue Mister Handy robot called Mister Gutsy. I had no idea those things could shoot flames. That's scary.

I also found a radscorpion. I wish I found more--their poison appears to be worth a fortune.

Oh ya Verb. That Mel fellow won't always appear at the super duper mart.

The super duper mart appears to be a really good spot for random encounters.

I remember getting a shit roll on one of my playthroughs by finding a fucking deathclaw in the parking lot.

Mister Gutsy bots aren't that scary. Its the Robobrains and Sentry Bots you need to watch out for. You'll start seeing more of them when you level up higher.

And yeah, collecting radscorpion poison glands is a good way to get extra caps.

Don't know if this counts as a spoiler for you or whatever, but the stage of the quest you're at is really weird and confusing. I'd recommend just googling the next step.

I'm honestly on the verge. lol

Maaan, it would be so satisfying if I just found them myself, though. I don't know.

When you first play Fallout your little radar in the bottom left corner is really confusing at first. Although that quest gives you three locations. The areas are also confusing.

Yeah, I was about to ask about the radar, actually. What are those little arrows underneath the line, and what does it mean when they go black? Are those just areas that I'm reaching, or something?

Undiscovered locations/discovered locations
