DAILY REMINDER THAT FALLOUT 3 SUCKS AND BETHESDA WRITERS HAVE SUCKED SINCE 2003

When they try to do "gray" moral choices, they fall flat on their face. Their solution to making something morally ambiguous is just to make both options suck. You can see this in the Tenpenny Tower quest line. Either you keep the ghouls out, and have the game call you an evil racist meanie, or let them in and have them slaughter all of the current residents. There is no "good" option, no silver lining. Both options are wrong. You have nothing to strive for, and a good player will be driven to apathy rather standing by their tough decision. The gray area in the Pitt DLC comes down to both sides being completely unlikable, and you choosing the lesser of two evils, instead of what you believed was right. This also comes up in the Skyrim Civil War quest line. It doesn't matter whether you pick the Legion or the Stormcloaks; both are terrible and you feel like an asshole after. Most people end up just hating both sides and choosing to ignore the quest line all together.

Compare this to New Vegas' factions. If you go onto any Fallout or gaming forum, you'll find vehement supporters for all four sides of the war, even Caesar's Legion. All choices have their strengths and their drawbacks, and the choice lies in what the individual playing the game believes is right, not just what they dislike the least. That's how you do gray moral choices, not this weak-ass "both options suck balls" bullshit that Bethesda does.

I feel like games in general suck at morality systems. Every action has to have a 'good' or 'bad' moniker attached to it, when sometimes that just doesn't really work. You rarely ever get points for being neutral. And even if you can be a dick, you're still the hero because you still generally follow the plot planned for a hero.

That Enclave quest line in Fallout 3 was pretty damn fun though. It was badass being able to storm the Pentagon with a team of Enclave soldiers...Oh wait there is no Enclave story line because Bethesda can't do shit for depth.

Generally, I enjoyed exploring Fallout 3 more so than that of the questing. I know that in a Fallout game choices should matter, but playing it in First Person rather than the old isometric view made it worth it. But NV had a way better story and side missions.

The writing is abysmal, I agree. They can still be enjoyable, but that doesn't mean the writing isn't bad.
