MS changed it so you don't need XBL Gold to use Netflix and stuff, like how you don't need PS+ for anything besides multiplayer.

I'm pretty sure it's up to the devs/publishers to require PS+ on their games.

That being said, it should be free. That goes for every platform.

I assume this is meant to be read in a sarcastic tone. Gaming doesn't often pop up in mainstream media and nobody seemed to want to talk about it much since then online. Just last year I remember seeing a thread where 50+ people were also under the assumption that PSN was free to play online.
