Am I right? Not anymore, mate. Before, I really didn't want to be banning folks for small misconduct; we're a tight-knit community and we all know each other. But those small things add up, and before you know it, you have people getting away with stuff they ought not be.So yeah, I don't know if you've noticed, but people with long warning histories have been getting immediate 4-7 day bans, and if they kept it up it would go to a month, followed by a perma. So I'd have to disagree with you; we're being more critical of people who just don't get it.
I'd quit.

Moderating is too easy. Seriously, it's not that hard.
However, if you give that kind of power to the wrong hands, they can get all power hungry like Kiyo.
As a moderator from RA I was alright, but as soon as I became Admin, I got really greedy and wanted quality over quantity. It was one hell of a drama fest. This is post b.next btw.
So if Cheat's going to get a new mod in town (unless this was a joke and I'm an idiot, it's probably a joke and I'm an idiot) I say go right ahead Cheat.
Get the new guy going, but if he fucks up and gets all power hungry, petition time!
So for the sake of discussion, what would you do if you were a Sep7 mod?I'd quit because lol I'm not moderating this place, you might as well as forget it.

Seriously, it's not that hard.My whole reply won't be like this but for this line I must quote from a certain holy text.Book of ChallengerChapter 17RevelationsLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOLAmen.Really though, moderating can be easy if you want to do a shit job of it. Case in point would be Bnet where they have to sift through hundreds of reports every day (Probably thousands at the moment) so they get responded to with a nice 'Ban or Ignore' efficiency. Which is pretty poor moderation to most people because it tends to be a lot of summary execution style stuff rather than spending time to resolve conflicts or break up fights before they start. If you want to keep a smaller site like this one alive, you can't just swing the hammer around willy nilly. QuoteHowever, if you give that kind of power to the wrong hands, they can get all power hungry like Kiyo.1. Obviously, the axiom stands.2. A nice bit of misinformed opinion there, kiyo wasn't power hungry she just made a few too many mistakes and/or rather major problems. But sure, demonise the former staff because they must all be nazis.QuoteAs a moderator from RA I was alright, but as soon as I became Admin, I got really greedy and wanted quality over quantity. Or would that more likely start a culture where people cover up their mistakes and banadu people to keep them quiet? hmmmmQuoteSo for the sake of discussion, what would you do if you were a Sep7 mod?I'd quit because lol I'm not moderating this place, you might as well as forget it.Hmm, keep on cleaning up the shite that gets smeared over the bathroom walls every day and dealing with the complaints of modsarenazis whenever someone gets bant. It's a lot of fun and really really easy!
It's really not that easy, I'm afraid. We have to find the fine balance between upholding the rules and making this place enjoyable for everyone on the one hand, and not getting rid of our rather limited userbase on the other.
Guys I'm sorry but it really is piss easy to be a mod.
As a short term monitor, I can say that you're quite wrong on that. And I can also say that Kiyo wasn't power hungry.1.Kiyo was a case of "abusing mod powers." Power hungry and abuse of powers are two different things.2. If the rules for modding were "lax" of sorts, then modding would be easy. Picture a totalitarian mod setup. Somebody acts up like an asshole and it's the mod's judgement on how to old yeller them or no with no strings attached. But you can't do that, oh no. Mod bias. And the small population of this site. You could go on Bungie.net and ban 100 people in a day and by the end of the day there'll be 200 to replace them. This site doesn't have that.So you've got to walk around issues a bit.
To be honest, as an admin (mainly a developer) I feel that my work here is less stressing than what decisions the moderation goes through, and the time they invest into their work.
Come on, I would make the forum fun.Lots and lots of fun.
Please. How hard can it possibly be to decide to ban somebody?
Being a mod isn't hard. I could just ban any little shit I want to. Job done. Time to relax. Pleasing the maximum number of individuals in fairness on the other hand. . . Catering to you fuckers at times is like the remains of some gruesome homicide, all over the place.
It is rather complicated, and the moderators don't simply have to fill the neat form and click submit. There's much more involved into applying penalties on Sep7agon, and I think it's better for a Ninja to talk about this.Quote from: Decimator Omega on March 26, 2015, 04:14:22 PMPlease. I've used SMF before, unless Cheat made it harder that it should be, it shouldn't be that hard.
