US also has extra credits where you can just get points towards a pass for going in to something extra or something
To pass here, some modules have criteria like you have to have an attendance of at least 80%
have at least an attempt on every piece of coursework even if you do badly, and if you don't meet some of them they'll just fail you for the entire module which means you fail the year, and they're usually different for every module

70 is very good herehttp://matadornetwork.com/life/5-differences-going-college-us-vs-uk/anything above 80 is pretty much impossible unless you get your name on the news for getting a disease or algorithm named after you

Quote from: Tyger on June 24, 2016, 12:36:59 PMJoking of course, I'm aware the education systems are completely different. 50% still seems like a strange threshold for passing though.Like if you're a waiter, and you only get half your orders right, or your a lawyer and only win half your cases, that's pretty badI think it makes sense. 51% is more than half, therefore a sufficient amount. It's not a good grade, but it's a pass. All depends on the difficulty of the courses of course. A friend of mine is a civil engineer who managed to graduate with a 67% average here. He then spent a semester of his second Master's in the US and graduated with a 98% at one of the best 20 engineering universities in America, saying he breezed through it all with little to no issues and hardly any studying. You should ask Ginger about it. A 60% pass in some of the classes in her program is probably comparable to an A or 90% back in her American university. But I can see how it could be considered strange, yeah.
