OK, for this you are staying in a hotel on the 20th floor. Its hot, and your AC is not working well, so you open the window. You hear a noise, and poke your head out. A few feet over, a man sits on the ledge, weeping openly. He looks at you, startled, and says to leave him alone, he will jump.

He's clearly drunk, well dressed, but dirty, like he's been on a 3 day bender. After asking why, he tells you his wife left him, and took his kids. He's broke, and just got fired.

Let him jump. People have the right to end their life and I'm in no position to tell them otherwise.

Drunk people can't legally have sex, why should a drunk man be able to jump off a balcony?

As if I could talk anyone out of something like that after they've made up their mind. I couldn't even think of a valid reason why they should choose to live, as much as I'd really want to.

I just don't know what I would say that would affect the situation.

I didn't sleep that night, and had was really bummed the next day, but I really didn't know him, and so it's a lot like hearing that somebody died, or watching someone insignificant die in a movie.

Like I said, I wasn't going to stop him, it's his right.
All I could do was be there for him.
