It would probably be a nightmare. Even if you baby-proof the shit out of it and say, "Well, of course, the word I'm referring to is 'nigger.' Even if you set it up like that, people would still freak the fuck out.

So I guess the real question is, as a white person, would it even be worth it to say it, even after being given explicit "permission."

Also, to the non Americans who can't really grasp it, keep in mind it was only 50 years ago, one generation, that we were oppressing black people across the nation. Of course the word will still carry a heavy impact because of that, along with the hundred of years of slavery that came before it. It really shouldn't shock you. It's still a VERY fresh thing here, and racism is still a big issue, despite people saying it isn't.

At least we moved past the "I don't see race/racism doesn't exist" meme that baby boomers tried to force on us.

The point is that he shouldn't be fired for broaching the subject, but his is obviously not a job where it would be taken as a serious discussion.
