Never. My straightness is hardwired, and incomparable to something niche like a fetish. I have a friend who has (allegedly) forced herself to develop a foot fetish, just to see if it's possible to do so. Turned out it was. I don't... necessarily believe her, but who am I to just say, "No, that didn't happen."

And I figure, if you can give yourself a fetish, you can get over a fetish.

Just like whether you're attracted to males or females is chosen at birth, so is whether you have a particular fetish or not. It's not as hardwired or absolute as sexuality, but it's still not something that people just choose to develop. I honestly don't believe that what your friend did was legitimate, to be frank.
