Idk how old you are, but the only real takeaway you can get from this is it's something you can chalk up for experience to put on resumes for future better paying jobs.

Pro tip: Never work at Target. The actual work is alright and the organization was nice, but big corporate jobs are fucking terrible. They make you have to rush to some phone to answer a question or you get a negative mark or whatever, and you have to check people out at the cash register quickly (they time you) or it's a mark against you (they give you some letter grade lol).

And the worst part is when you sell Target Red Cards (which are basically like those shitty Gamestop pro memberships where you get discounts and credit build up) they announce over the intercom that you sold one to a guest (can't call em customers), and offer this obviously fake enthusiastic round of applause/congratulations.

The only real positive was that it gave me a wake up call to what people who are in their 50's and 60's are doing if they don't pursue a better education or career. Seeing people there that old, and thinking it could be me, absolutely terrified me.

I wholeheartedly agree, and from what I've been told, the mindset is more of an American thing, hence why I want to leave. BUT being 22 my life is basically over and I'll never amount to more than a janitor

I never knew where anything was and sorting it out was such a fucking nightmare. Either way, I'm glad you found something better.

The only thing that made that job tolerable for me was texting my significant other at the time on my breaks.

Like right now I'm going to apply at an airport job being a cargo handler for 3 hour shifts Tuesday-Friday from 5-8AM, simply because the hours aren't insane, it's a summer job, and my friend works there so I'd be hanging around him. That and he says the AM shift people are just insanely laid back and don't give a fuck about anything.

I enjoy the work atmosphere where yeah you gotta work, but people aren't so uptight about it, which gives off that "fake" vibe that I felt at Target.

That must've sucked. I worked in Electronics during the holidays. People are such fucking animals. They were all like rabbid self entitled shits wanting stuff not giving a fuck about anyone else or any of the employees. I'm busy helping 1 person and I have several people rudely interrupting me just to get their shit.

I'm so glad I'm out of that. I'd rather work at a machine shop than retail anyday. And unlike retail, I'm being kept at my current job. I'm not being let go. I'm a permanent member until I get either fired or I quit, and I don't plan on quitting so if I tend to suck for them at some point for whatever the reason maybe, they're gonna have to fire me.

But that isn't the case since I really work my ass off. The boss is happy with what I do so I'm in good hands for now.

Yeah. My job isn't easy by any means, but compared to retail, its actually the least stressful, until the general manager decides to have production rushed just to have shit rush out the door. Its days like that where it can really blow, and I make more mistakes under time constraints vs going at a reasonable pace. Hence why work can be very overwhelming.

They know this and they know I'm new at my job, hence why I'm not in huge trouble or in any trouble, and I don't scrap as much to get into any big trouble, let alone scrap any parts that are potentially worth a million dollars. You do that and the bare minimum if they like you is a write up. Otherwise you're fired.

The U.S. and U.K. are vastly different in the job mindset, keep in mind. We still don't have maternal leave over here, along with issues with healthcare with our jobs, and various other things. We're far too capitalistic that we have to step on others in the job market to more or less get somewhere in life.

Per chance, what school do you have? If you don't like such jobs, ever considered getting some certification for equipment operation and finding a job in the oil or mining sector. Hell even road construction. The pay is very generous, and although hours are long, the overtime and subsistence pay is alot. They sometimes even pay for meal and gas.

Though I will say work will be sometimes boring and hard and can go full day, from , 10 hours to longer and usually carries on all days of a week. But the way you get days off will be done differently. So instead of weekends you have 10 days on 4 days of or 2 weeks on and 1 week off. Though at the end of the day the money you make in that week can be equal to a month wage for anyone in a real job.
