If 8 hours is bad - try working in Eastern Europe. 36 hour shifts (2 hours of sleep) and you are paid fuck all for it.

I work for painting at my college over the summer. It's pretty brain dead work. But it's from 7am to 3:30pm with two half hour breaks. It's a 40 hour work week at minimum wage so there's that I guess. Everyone kept congratulating me like it was done kind of huge achievement. Like yay I get to work

You should find a temp agency to put you in an office job that isn't custodial. I got my job with no office experience.

Don't worry, it gets easier. I mean, I only understand the "you'll like capitalism when you get your first job" insofar that I'm making than 20K a year and something like 30% of my money is going to taxes... but I'm one of the demographics that should be benefiting from a lower tax rate. If I was making enough to stay afloat this wouldn't really be a problem

Be careful what you wish for. 10 hours a day 4 days a week at a machine shop can be hell. My primary job is a machinist but I've had to do other tasks that are rather challenging for me.

I'll just say this right now. Squaring ends 10 hours a day sucks. You have to wear a respirator mask, goggles, rubber gloves, the whole 9 yards just to square the edges of the parts you machined, and they have to be in tolerance, if it ends up being undersize, its scrap. Too many scraps and you're in trouble. The most I've scraped is at least 3, because its hard to maintain tolerance when you're slightly over.

This is all because our Benching and Square Ends guy got fired. Luckily I didn't have to do that today, but I'm probably gonna do that tomorrow.

There are days where it gets extremely overwhelming, but it pays well. I hope I move on to better parts soon.

Oh and you don't get to decide your breaks. You have a scheduled time for your breaks and lunch.
