Interstellar was good, but it was like the Kidz Bop version of 2001.
I have to disagree. Interstellar paid more attention to detail on the science side of things than 2001 did. It was just focused more on the human condition. Above all else, Clark was a futurist.
If anything, Nolan was showing us how WE fit in 2001. The plot lines are pretty similar when you take out the plot devices.
2001 had immanent nuclear war with Russia. Interstellar had ecological collapse. 2001 had the First Born and the Monoliths. Interstellar had 5th dimensional beings communicating with gravity. Bowman and Cooper both overcome a mutiny that take their crew and go on a hero's journey through a singularity. The movies end with humanity either evolving or being directed to evolve.
The difference is the focus. 2001 was about the species as a whole, Interstellar was about the individual.
