Sex is icky. Go read Harry Potter or The Cat in the Hat.
Where did I say it was icky? I made a comment about the "spent his seed inside her womb" part being something that would be in a hentai or a sex comic. That is a poorly writing line.

A poorly written line in a thousand page book? Cry me a river. Picking apart a single line or paragraph from a sex scene (which the author admits are a weak area of his, which is why they're so sparse and brief) is just low hanging fruit. It's not a legitimate criticism.

PFFFFFFFHAHAHAHA

Is ANYTHING a legitimate criticism to you?

Why is it not a legitimate criticism? Because the author acknowledges that he sucks?

That's not a legitimate excuse.

It's borderline nitpicking but it's still legitimate criticism. It being one line out of a thousand page book still shouldn't remove it from a criticism list.

Since he's weak at doing sex parts then he shouldn't go that far into them then or try to make them erotic. Reading those sex parts that were posted here are cringey as hell.
Quote

How isn't it legitimate criticism when it's still something that's part of the book? You said it yourself that he's not good at doing sex parts but he tried way too hard during that line. He should have realized how bad it was and erased it.

Anyways, we're like four months away from season 6 with GRRM not even mentioning anything about a release date, so I don't take this as much of a surprise.

I can see Jon's parentage being revealed this season, kinda sucks that we have to see it in the show first but eh.
Eh, if a reveal that's already been widely accepted among the fanbase is the worse thing to be spoiled this season, I'll be fine. What's really going to piss me off is when it starts to spoil who survives and who doesn't in a shitty, simplified way.

Spoiler
Like Stannis?
Spoiler
Possibly. I'm currently not expecting him to die in the Battle of Winterfell but I can't imagine he'll have a key role in the last book. I kind of think the characters they decided to kill off in season 5 were characters that they didn't know where to go with for the show. I mean they cut Aegon and he is obviously going to have a huge role in TWOW so it's hard to say what level of accuracy the show can be held to at this point. I'm more so talking about the A-list characters like Jaime or Arya. If one of them dies, then they surely die in the books.
Spoiler
I think Stannis will crush Ramsay Bolton at least (Roose may escape), and return to the Wall to face the Others in battle, where he will die.

My second line of thought is that he might take Massey's sellswords and march south only to be struck down by Dany, which I would not be a fan of compared to the first option.

Is ANYTHING a legitimate criticism to you?
Sure. Plot, pacing, character development, writing style, consistency, settings, verbiage, structure, tone, mood, enjoyment, relatability, etc. All of this is perfectly legitimate.
Quote

First of all, because it's already widely recognized as a weak area by readers and the author; The criticism is vapid and uninspired. Second, it's not legitimate because it's an incredibly cherry-picked and narrow scope of criticism that is being used to judge the merit of the work as a whole. You've also already decided that you don't like the books, so it's heavily influencing your view. I wouldn't say it's particularly bad or good; it's just two lines in a book. Taken as a whole that chapter's really well-written and interesting; that section in particular tells a lot about a character we haven't seen much in a POV setting. It wasn't meant to be erotic or arousing, it's just a very Martin-like matter-of-fact telling of events.

Pretty sure all the mentioned lines would fall under writing style and verbiage.

So WHAT? That doesn't somehow relinquish him of any of his follies. It's a terrible facet of his writing capabilities, and it should be drilled into the fucking ground.

If I ever read the book, I swear to fucking god, I'm going to make a thread and quote every single one of Georgie's brilliant little nuggets of literary greatness that I find, then. And quote you every single time. I will shred it the fuck apart.

Can someone please explain to me why people take Verb seriously and let him derail every thread with low quality bait?
There wasn't much discussion to begin with. The thread is about a book being late so you're not going to have much to talk about. Also the thread really isn't derailed when we're talking about the books in a thread that's about one of the books.
No, you see, it's derailed because I'm expressing a negative opinion. Only positive opinions are allowed in GoT threads, because GoT fanboys cannot handle criticism or any level of scrutiny.
If this is all you got out of our conversation, you're fucking retarded. I couldn't care any less that you dislike GoT, it's the fact that you have to make sure everyone knows by being extremely obnoxious and confrontational. It's like every single thing you post is designed to get someone who disagrees to respond.

The point is this happens all the time and always revolves around Verb.

Stannis is a hard one to predict. I don't know where is going to fit in the conflict between Dany, Aegon, the Greyjoys, etc. But I don't think he's going to die based solely on the fact that he's suddenly getting financed by the Iron Bank. If he dies, what was the point of that? Your first option seems likely.

I need to go back and read the books...

i'm on my second read-through now, there's a lot to look out for, lots of foreshadowing and the like.

I bet, when dealing with vipers, wolves and dragons. You tend to hint on what will be the next trick.

You're saying we should hate the entire series because there's sex in it?

Verb, not everyone get's assmad whenever sex is mentioned or occurs in books/games/TV.
Not just sex--EXTREMELY POORLY WRITTEN and childish depictions of sex.

Read those lines.
You have to be descriptive if you want your sex scenes to be erotic. "He had sex lol" isn't good book material.

A bit over the top sometimes, sure. But it's definitely not "extremely poorly written". The authors job is to conjure mental images in your head and that's exactly what George Martin does.

He writes it like a child who just learned what sex was would write it. It's distracting and takes you out of the story.
