that's so fucking stupid. you can only say himself or herself for it to count as a word. yeah well sometimes guess what you stupid bitch, those words don't really apply because you're addressing someone neutrally or some shit. so what is the right way to say it?

Also, singular "they" has been commonly considered to be acceptable vernacular for a long time, as long as you're using it in an informal setting. It's still not standard English, and that's just the way it is.

It only behooves you to have at least two brain cells to squeeze together to figure out some kind of workaround, of which there are plenty.

or through coinage by a reputable authority (like a scientist)

that way, you'll get the word landed in some dictionary, and that, to some people, will make it an "official" word
for... some reason

because really, technically speaking, words are formed by any given string of letters
and it's up to us to give them meaning

and they can mean anything we want
