Martin Mystery / Totally Spies are cartoons that are based on niche genres from decades ago. MM is mystery solving scooby doo style stuff at the core, but also blends it with X Files, Gravity Falls*, and 50s monster movies. TS is pretty much clueless meets charlie's angels, which is just awesome by default

the shows also use an anime style without being anime (wanime) similar to avatar tla. This is good because I like certain things about anime, in particular the very realistic art-style, but the medium itself is too weird and overbearing for me. Wanime is anime from a western perspective and that familiarity blended with aspects of anime I legitimately like, makes for a fantastic watch

now you go

Gravity Falls took inspiration from this show, Alex probs watched it as a kid

one of my favorite shows right now is star vs the forces of evil (my avatar) it's kinda like a spiritual successor to gravity falls, but ive never watched that show. star vs is a charming and fun show that has surprising mature themes, like racism and that no matter you try, you might not be able to change views, ideals, outcomes, etc

but of course what i love more are the characters, especially love tensions between the main characters. i gobble romance stuff up so naturally i want 2 fictional characters to be together

ive never really talked about it on this site but if i get going i wiLL nerd out about it

I've heard about that show, it was on when gravity falls was in season 2 iirc

I'm glad it's good I may need to watch it

I hate 11 minute shows though, it ruins the pacing

yeah, the show debuted in 2015, still ongoing til this day

i get what you mean about the 11-minute thing tho, theres always an overarching narrative in the background, but it may take quite a number of episodes to actually focus on it, ya know?

idk tho, currently the shows on its second half of season 3, with a season 4 in the works. it woudnt take long to catch up, but idk if youre the type of person to like waiting for the next episode, or just watch it all continuously once it's done airing

i'm in the process of playing through every single NES game that i own (400+), something i've been telling myself to do for years and years, but would never get around to itβ€”and now i'm finally making headway on it

most of these games are terrible and 30 years old, but i'm still playing them because i consider it wasteful not to

given that most if not all of my interests are informed by whatever i was exposed to as a child, nostalgia is a cornerstoneβ€”if your art makes me feel like a kid again, i'm probably going to enjoy it

i have a very wordsworthian view of my childhood, so it actually goes beyond mere nostalgia for me

Halo and the Star Wars prequel era/ clone wars (moreso than the OT because I only had the prequels on VHS for a while) were my main series' growing up so I gained a pretty (un)healthy interest in science fiction and astrophysics. Both series' going to utter shit around the same time led me to more or less start looking for more scifi media, which led me to more classic and harder science fiction stuff.

Getting an interest in concept art around 2014-ish led me to games art as a subject, so I started worldbuilding to support my own original designs, which was what led me to becoming interested in trying to make stuff scientifically accurate.

My reading/ to-watch list right now has The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land, Dune, Armour (half way done), Ringworld, Firefly (rewatch), Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5 and Stargate and also maybe Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? on it so a lot of science fiction lol. I read Starship Troopers, The Forever War and all of The Expanse (and watched the series) last year too.
