Just got back from a Army weekend. I hear my fair share of swear words during the weekend. I'm also guilty of it too.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
Why the fuck not?

It adds impact to a sentence depending on the tone. E.g. "The weather isn't nice today" compared to "The weather is shit today". Out of those sentences, which weather sounds worse?

I never understood why some words are taboo when they aren't blanket judgements on others. Nigger, chink, spick, fag, honkey... those I get. But Fuck, shit or cunt? Those really are just words. Now I gotta censor my kid because some soccer mom gets offended when my son tells her little bundle of sunshine to fuck off.

This is a true story BTW. I just got a call this week because my 4 year old told his friend to fuck off, I gotta take a piss. He did have to piss, and his friend wouldn't leave him alone. To me this is correct usage of the full English language. But now I have to act like he's in trouble for using "potty words."

No offense but letting your 4 year old kid use that kind of language is trashy.

Why do you think these words have the emphasis they have? Because they're taboo. Language needs taboo words, otherwise phrases like "fuck off" wouldn't really have as strong of a meaning.

Well yeah, if some kid in school told mine to fuck off I'd raise some serious questions. I'd never raise my kids like that. Let them swear at an early age and who knows what sort of trouble they'll end up in later on.

Judge all you fucking want. You only think it "trashy" because you have a preconceived notion that some words are taboo. Do I cuss constantly around my kid? No, not really. But I don't talk to him like he's a kid. I talk to him like he's an adult. You know what? He's better for it. He's a year younger than all his classmates and he speaks like he's two years older? Why? I don't baby him. I will not dumb him down because some ivory tower soccer mom thinks he should speak like a kid. Communication is the single most important skill I can teach him. I'll be damned if I deny him that just because people have a problem with certain words.
