Judge all you fucking want. You only think it "trashy" because you have a preconceived notion that some words are taboo. Do I cuss constantly around my kid? No, not really. But I don't talk to him like he's a kid. I talk to him like he's an adult. You know what? He's better for it. He's a year younger than all his classmates and he speaks like he's two years older? Why? I don't baby him. I will not dumb him down because some ivory tower soccer mom thinks he should speak like a kid. Communication is the single most important skill I can teach him. I'll be damned if I deny him that just because people have a problem with certain words.

I'm all for treating children like adults, but you should probably explain that certain words have certain connotations and should be used sparingly.

Why the fuck not?

It adds impact to a sentence depending on the tone. E.g. "The weather isn't nice today" compared to "The weather is shit today". Out of those sentences, which weather sounds worse?

Well, it also depends on how often you swear.

If you're the kind of person who uses words like fuck and shit liberally, then maybe saying "this weather is so shitty" will actually have less of an impact than if you were, say, Mr. Rogers instead. Words tend to lose their punch through overuse.

I curse because it fucking proves my god damn intelligence.
