If he actually hit someone and drove off then yeah he should get sacked and possibly a fine/license points. If it was a joke then it was harmless, although companies don't like it when their employees post less than flattering things on their fb/twitter.

Do jokes beyond something out of a kid's joke book have to be prefaced with *Warning* This is a joke, I did not seriously do or believe this* That's asinine. If you want to break the joke down, he said "I think I hit a cyclist..." clearly someone would know if they hit a person on a bicycle. Their car would be have some form of evidence hitting a person at 20-45mph. Next he says "oh well can't be late for work lol". Maybe it's just me, but I don't think a majority of people would be in such a hurry to work, then there's the lol, which is quite often used at the butt of jokes online.
