Why do most of you follow science over religion?

You aren't geniuses. You will never truly understand the theories of top scientists. So you're just taking someone else's word for it. You all have faith.

I have personally spoken to God firsthand and that's why I am religious. If you people put your faith in something more important, you could also speak with God.

Science can, aside from some events such as those occurring in deep space and such, be replicated. It has hard evidence and can be verified.

Someone saying they talked with an omnipotent figure cannot be verified, not backed up by another source.

Because we live in a wonderful age of free information, and can be as informed and educated as we desire at little to no cost to ourselves.

We don't need petty constructs to make ourselves feel better about the existential meaning of where we came from.
Earlier today I overheard a girl standing in line at the bar talking about how she was an atheist.

Keep in mind, I live in Texas, so you know that this girl, who was cloaked in rhinestones with cowboy boots and a pink tank top, was raised a Christian and never new anything different growing up.

I began to think on this very subject.
With so much free information at our disposal, you don't have to be a genius to come up with your own opinions on the origins of the universe. What's more, it's not hard to comprehend theories that others have come up with already, and natural human curiosity blossoms outward in even the dullest mind.

Just as a Christian might ponder the face of god, someone who understands the scientific foundations of the universe is driven to think about the way those parts interlock.

Because of education, there are more atheists, and because they are not charged with holy fire, their opinions can be changed with logic and reason, not sermon and prayer.

Because I believe in the scientific method, which is fairly easy to understand and can be applied to almost anything.

If something appears to be true according to the scientific method, it probably is. But the beauty in science is that our whole world and the way we define it could be turned on it's head tomorrow. Some people may see it as a bad thing to get their worldviews challenged, but science is all about making new discoveries and gaining knowledge.

If evidence for the existence of one or multiple godlike beings where to be found, I would be exited. Not because I lean towards theism, because I don't. But because it would possibly change everything we know about the universe, and because it would simply be really interesting.
