Why did I become conscious?

Do you ever just wonder, why did I specifically gain consciousness, in this body, not the body of someone else, and not the body of an animal or something? Doesn't it ever just seem weird to you that you happen to become the person you are, on the planet you're in, and you're you and not someone else, and you can only experience consciousness specifically as yourself?

Because of human intelligence. You usually develop consciousness/awareness at age 5-7 -- it depends -- although developing it earlier on is usually a sign of being a smart individual. Before that ascendance, you're no smarter than most animals and don't really have any memories of that time.

Interestingly enough, for some people, this transition of non-awareness to awareness is very pronounced, almost terrifying, like a great responsibility has been cast upon you.

honestly i do get that too. like why am i seeing the world through my own eyes? what made me get this body and not the body of someone else? i still think about it from time to time, mostly when i was a kid.

The majority of what will become a human being is in the egg before fertilization, though. We all basically just sat around and waited for somebody else to do all the work.

And for most of us, nothing much's changed since then.
