Let me guess... you don't understand why people like firearms?
Yea.
Why do you like hockey?
I started playing it when I was 3 and have grown up watching it and playing it.
It's a sport that I both enjoy watching and participating in.
And best of all I'm not shooting a lethal weapon. :^)

And shooting a lethal weapons is bad how? Not like gun ranges have people tied up and you fire at them. Just like with every hobby, it's about enjoyment, making friends, developing a skill, and just having fun

You probably shouldn't tell him that there is a huge gun culture in Canada, he may get scared or something.

While having weapons that could kill dozens of people in seconds at your fingertips.
There's a difference between a hobby that you try to get an object in a net and a hobby where you could kill many people with any inclination to do so.

Maybe I should post the video of a guy buying a Tavor at a random Canadian gas station and the only thing he had to do was give the guy money and show a card

Except no law-abiding and responsible gun owner goes out and kills people. There's millions of people like me and we are held to the highest standards of the law because we don't commit crimes; that's kind of why we can own guns in the first place. Alternatively, you have car-related deaths that number higher than gun deaths yet these people still are able to drink and still able to drive after a period of time

Hey I'm not saying that owning a gun is the worst thing in the world.
I'm just saying I don't understand what drives a person to go out and purchase one.
That makes zero sense to me.

Well for one, I have the right to do so and have not broken any laws. Secondly it's the same reason people play sports or own lots of cars; for collecting and personal enjoyment. Gun owners don't question why other people have certain hobbies and interests so there's no point to ask us why when everybody shares the same motives for getting involved with a certain and harmless thing

Easy answer.

Because we can.

It's as simple as that.

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are
I believe it has to do with the fact that if you give your gun decent care, it will outlast you and your child's life. If you could buy firearms straight from the manufacturer, I heard that knocks off at least $100+ more, depending on the firearm too.

Maybe we should bring him to the states for a good old fashioned range day. He seems like one who can be easily turned to the fun side.

That is, if your determination of gunshy is accurate.

Who says I've never used it? I've killed bottles, paper, clay targets, steel plates, and lots of dirt by proxy.

I've never used them on another person and god help me if I am in the situation where I have to. I'm content with target shooting and maybe hunting. But I know that if I ever need my gun it's there for me.

boom

But that's probably because you'd probably hit the first target, rip apart your shoulder, then shoot down an orbiting satellite as you continue to fire upward. The Satellite then crashes into a major metropolitan city.

And shooting a lethal weapons is bad how? Not like gun ranges have people tied up and you fire at them. Just like with every hobby, it's about enjoyment, making friends, developing a skill, and just having fun
While having weapons that could kill dozens of people in seconds at your fingertips.
There's a difference between a hobby that you try to get an object in a net and a hobby where you could kill many people with any inclination to do so.
I would be surprised if you could kill dozens of people in seconds with a semi automatic rife.
With enough people lined up I'm sure it could be done.

"Excuse me, I intend to mass murder the lot of you. Can you all line up orderly so I can shoot you down like dominoes?"
