Why are gun owners so fearful?

The number one reason given on why someone needs a gun is for home defense. Yet, the odds that your house would be broken into are really low. They are even lower still that you would be home at all during the robbery.

So, why the fear?

Now, I'm all for gun ownership. If I didn't have the kids, and had the money, I would likely own a few for sport shooting. I just don't see the need to have one to defend my home.

Now, before you bring up the insurance analogy, remember odds almost everyone gets into at least two accidents (from a fender bender to a catastrophic collision) in their life. According to the Bureau of Justice it's under 2.9% and dropping. And that's if your home is broken into at all. It's significantly lower if you are home.

Just like privacy, it's not about NEEDS, it's about RIGHTS.

I don't NEED a gun, I WANT one, and legally I am allowed to have one, so I will.

2-3% is still 1 in 40ish people

but youre right thats a low percentage within a low percentage

i think what we do here is youre allowed to shoot for sport but the establishment keeps the guns for you under tight security, not exactly sure

Fearful?
I am. Whenever I break into a home I'm always fearful of getting pumped full of lead.
If there were no guns, I would be really happy!

Exactly. I'm all for your Blackout. But just say you want to have it for the joy of having it. Why say it's because you're afraid someone will break in?
