Whose deaths (outside of friends and family) will affect you the most?

Not the most fun thing to think about, I know, but I've actually been thinking about it a lot lately.

Just two people for me: Trent Reznor and Shigeru Miyamoto.

I'm not normally one to get all bent out of shape about celebrity deaths. The last one that affected me in any way was David Bowie, and before that, I hadn't really felt very much at all over any dead famous person's death besides shock.

But Trent Reznor's music has scored my life for as long as I can remember, and has gotten me through so much shit (not that I've "been through" very much shit, but still), and Miyamoto-san is basically responsible for my entire childhood, as well as pretty much everything else that I still enjoy about life, as sad as that sounds.

I put these people on a massive fucking pedestal that I know I probably shouldn't. I've never met them, never will, and I'm not even sure if I'd want to. But their works have had such a significant impact on my life, so I don't think it's completely irrational to be emotionally attached to them in some way.

I can't really think of anybody else. Knock on wood.

I don't know if I will be devastated emotionally but it's going to be weird when George Lucas dies.

It's not like he actually does anything anymore but I'm just so used to him... existing, wearing his plaid flannel shirt, jeans, and glasses. Him passing away would be sad, certainly, but more than anything I would say that it will feel strange.

Maybe Olafur Eliasson or Katoki Hajime, I can't really think of anyone else off the top of my head. Tho Katoki is only really impactful because of his ver Ka. line of Gundam kits/designs. I don't really get too invested in people to (not to sound heartless) care, if it happens it sucks, but it doesn't really affect my everyday life.

i have no idea what to think about jordan peterson

he's the most down-to-earth and well-spoken person i've ever seen on the right-wing and he's obviously a smart guy, but he's also just dead wrong about so many things, and he comes across as smug to me

Personally, his message about taking responsibility to give your life meaning resonates with me immensely and I think it's a message that people desperately need to hear right now.

I can't find anything he's said that I can definitely say he's dead wrong about, though I still observe what he says critically. That's probably because I don't believe myself to be anywhere near smart or wise enough to say I understand much of what he talks about to the extent that I could refute him. Especially when even he claims to not have an entire grasp on many of these things and is still trying to figure them out himself. The psychological significance of religion being one of the main ares. I'll give him props, though, for being the only person to ever make the The Bible interesting for me.

Trent Reznor is the main one, but Hideo Kojima, David Hayter and Shida Naotoshi come to mind. It's hard to say, I've never really experienced an impactful celebrity death before.

The cultism around him is pretty concerning. Dude's smart and says some good things, but he does talk about things not within his area of expertise. Much of what he said on the topic of Canada's law on gender discrimination was factually wrong and little more than fearmongering, and he also pushed some points as absolute truth about identity / human development that I've seen "factchecked" as actually being highly contested in scientific circles (as with the Damore memo that he supported).

Where can I legitimately fact check that because I've seen various biologists and psychologists claim the research Damore cited was sound, and I haven't seen anyone actually refute it. If there are legitimate academics with research disputing it, I would really like to see it. I want to know the truth.

When it comes to bill C16, in Canada. Is compelled speech not now instantiated in law? Does the law not state that one could be fined for mis-gendering a person? Peterson has said numerous times that, when he spoke out against the law, it was absolutely reasonable for people to doubt him because it was something a reasonable person would never expect to see from a nation like Canada. I don't believe those to be the tactics of fear-mongering, I'm sorry. If one is forced to use specific pronouns under penalty of law, then that is compelled speech. That appears to be the essence of Peterson's argument against the law. I would genuinely like to know what is factually wrong about that.

It already did a few years ago with Robin Williams. That was the hardest death I had to take in for a while, and the thought of his situation and the joy he spread over his career really hurt.

Now, I wouldn’t call them a friend because of some of the stuff they tell me to do can negatively affect my life. But I have grown accustomed to them... and when they are gone I fear I will lose my mind.
