I'm moving there soon, and the two places I was most interested in suddenly dropped out a few days before we plan to go see houses. If anyone lives there and knows of any prospective homes for rent around NAS Norfolk ($1,200-1,800/mo), let me know.

Or if not, just talk about places I should visit when I'm there.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.

Little further away, but for a weekend trip or something, if you'd take route 13 north up over the Chesapeake for probably two hours (maybe less) up near the VA/MA border you'll come across Wallops Island (the NASA station, which is cool to check out if you're in to that stuff) and just a little further up is a pair of barrier islands, Chincoteague and Assateague. Assateague is some kind of wildlife refuge with a bunch of trails and bike paths. It's got feral horses too, which are the main attraction. My family used to vacation down there very often... but it's been quite a few years since I've gotten down now.
Crowd up there is gonna be much more relaxed than Virginia beach.
