Who here has traveled long distance alone?

There is a big conference/event thing coming up in March, where a lot of speakers I admire and learn from are speaking at. It’s completely free and they’re doing a long tour. The one in LA isn’t until MAY. That’s too long for me. However there is one in March, the only thing is it’s in Arizona.

I am really tempted to go, but I’ve never actually traveled on my own before. I would be flying there and then staying in a hotel. Never flown alone, never booked my own hotel, never been in a huge city completely by myself. It’s all incredibly intimidating and putting me off from it.

But I feel like it would be a really good learning experience/adventure. I’m slightly scared that I’d be disappointed by the event and feel like I wasted money, but I’m also pretty nervous just doing the whole traveling alone thing. It would set me back maybe $400-$600 for the whole thing(flight, hotel, food, transportation etc) Not gonna bankrupt me but not a small amount of money to go to some conference.

What do you guys think? I’ve actually always really had a desire to do stuff like this on my own but now that the opportunity presents itself I’m terrified. Any comments are welcome

If it's something you're passionate about and want to go to then don't let the fact that you would be alone stop you from doing it. You very well may meet some cool new people.

Research cab services though too. Or see if Uber is popular in the area.

Honestly there's nothing to be intimidated by as long as you have your phone. Google kind of ameliorates all of the traditional problems with being somewhere you don't know anything about without anyone to help.

If your traveling within the US you should be perfectly fine. You have your phone, and now the basics of how things work. Always research the destination your going to for things like transportation, and generally places to go or avoid. Always make sure to double check your flights, be there 2 hours early (assuming your flying). When you book a hotel always double check it is the correct date (easy mistake).

Other then that all you really need is your phone and google maps to get around.

Traveling overseas is when things get more complicated. It’s going to be nerve racking because you are out of your comfort zone but it’s an experience you need to become not only more independent but also more confident in yourself.
