Stannis doesn't die in the books.

We didn't see him die, but Brienne swung her sword.

It cut before we saw the effects, but he had an attitude where anyone would feel his pain through his voice. He was leaning on a tree, so I'm guessing that Brienne hits the tree instead.

Just watched the scene. It's just like Jon, we don't know that he's dead.

The official HBO website has him confirmed as dead.

Kit Harington is also not returning, and the showrunners have officially axed him from the show.

Basically everyone except those who know how to play the game are dead/will die. It's a fact I've accepted at this point.

The books are the only storylines which matter.

I honestly don't see Stannis surviving past WoW anyway. I mean, he's a great character, and D&D fucking butchered him, but I suppose it was better to just put down a dying horse sooner rather than later.

The only death I'm disappointed with, or at least, story arc cut short, is Jon's. We know for a fact that characters can be reanimated in the ASOIAF universe, (Lady Stoneheart, Berric Dondarrion) and HBO just seem utterly reluctant to go down that route.

I guess the character death doesn't bother me, it's the fact that his story arc ended so anti climatically. What about his possible lineage? His parents? We just going to suddenly forget about all the signs and hints GRRM left that he was indeed, part of the Song of Ice and Fire?

I understand that both the showrunners and GRRM want to veer away from the "happily ever after" trope, but there's a fine line between realism and outright contrivances. Jon's narrative being the latter.

Baelish was the only character worth backing in the first place.
