So I've been going on a binge with the movies again since I'm watching episode 7 again tomorrow (in 3D this time), and I changed a few positions on it so far. Decided to go in the order 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, since 3 and 6 easily play into each other with Vader and the Emperor.

Anyway, my thoughts are 4 isn't as great as I once thought. A tad boring (along with audio inconsistencies due to mic placement I guess. Idk if it's nit picking, but it's grating to hear a somewhat muffled voice, only for a voice right next to your ear) . Episode 5 easily has the best writing in the original, what with the humor and plot of it all. Seems episode 7 took the humor inspiration from that.

Episode 1 is fucking awful. I said 2 was the one I thought was worst? I lied. 1 was a chore to watch. Jar Jar's antics got tiring within 30 minutes, and NOTHING FREAKING HAPPENED in between them landing on Tatooine, and the pod races, and then the long haul to the Darth Maul duel. It was terrible, and 10 year old Ani's acting was awful. What I'm getting at, is that the pacing for 1 was terrible. Long periods of nothing happening, only for a few set piece moments.

Episode 2, minus the romance (I literally only liked one line of it and that was in the end when Padme was saying a part of her was dying little by little each day since they met again. Everything else can fuck off) was ACTUALLY NOT THAT BAD. A lot of the hints to Anakin turning to Vader are great, with him saying dictatorship might not be so bad, along with the Death March theme subtly playing and remixing twice into the movie.

And then the whole entire Clone segment. The CGI isn't the best in today's standards obviously, but man I forgot just how bad ass that entire freaking thing was. It was so glorious to watch and I'm easily going to have to watch the Clone Wars now because of it.

Watching 3 and 6 later tonight. Just thought I'd give thoughts on my change of position.

youre pretty much watching them in machete order, except machete order doesnt include episode 1 for obvious reasons (which you pointed out)

definitely the best order to watch them in

Just read up on machete order, that makes a lot of sense to watch it in that way

IV > V > II > III > VI

Hmm...
I re-watched Episode I with the "Jar Jar is a Sith" theory in mind and it put a different spin on the film (and the character is less annoying if you assume he's pretending to be retarded).

It still bugs me. Seeing him constantly fuck up on the battlefield was just annoying.

Huh...Machete Order actually kinda makes Episodes II and III even better for some reason, by just seeing them as a flashback between V and VI.

I have to disagree with you two now. I understand it was a huge thing that started the entire series, but the story and characters as compared to the sequels after is a no no for me. I still like it, yeah. But after re-watching, I can easily say I prefer ep 5 ahead of it.

That's fine. I know the idea of 4 being better than 5 isn't a popular one but I prefer 4 because of how neatly everything tied together. But imo they're both 10/10 so.

A New Hope is the best Star Wars movie because Tarkin is a heartless badass, has the best space battle of the original trilogy, and the classic Cantina scene.

And everything that Tblocks said above this post.

Just finished episode 6 so now I'm all done. Machete order is easily the best order to watch it in. It really made it more powerful when right before Padme dies she tells Obi-Wan "There is good in him" before kicking the bucket. Then in episode 6 (the very next one you'd watch) he tells Luke "You were right, there was good in me".

2 and 3 serve as great flashbacks to go right into 6.

Alternatively you could just skip AotC and just watch RotS. Nothing important happens in TPM and AotC. Everything relevant to Anakin and his fall is shown in RotS.

His mother dying, and his lust for power showing him slowly descend are an important part of AoTC.

I enjoyed them this time around

but fuck episode 1. I don't care what you say, that movie is now my most hated one, as it is not relevant to anything really in the entire series, and just Jar Jar and the long periods of nothingness between podracing/duel of fates.

Just bepfhpfnvdds no

It still adds to the weight of it though, along with some context on Dooku, his relationship with Palpatine, and getting with Padme too (though I hate to even bring up that point). It shows his rebellious teenage side and then the 3rd shows more anger to add onto it.

The one that is easily skippable is the 1st one.

His relationship to Palpy is easily gathered by the viewer and explained in RotS, how he got with Padme is irrelevant since what matters about her transpires during RotS. Dooku is a bad guy, that's all we ever learned in AotC, that's all we ever ended with in RotS. Nothing important is really exposed to the audience about him during the films and you had to read books, read comics, or watch cartoons to learn anything about him. His "rebellious teenage side" can be seen in RotS. Everything the viewer needs to know about Ani and his relationships with other people can be seen in that movie.

I don't recommend this. Every character you need to know for Episode III who was introduced in Episode I is reintroduced in Episode II with a quick line of dialogue, but Episode III just assumes you know who everyone is. Ham-handed as it is, Anakin's love for Padme is the ultimate reason for his fall to the dark side, and Episode II has most of that. Additionally, without seeing the Clone Army being created in Episode II, seeing the Jedi fight alongside them in III would be extremely confusing, since they look almost exactly like Stormtroopers in III. Narratively, I don't think skipping II works.

This is pretty interesting, and yes my post was a quote steam from that. I'm too lazy and inelegant to put it into better words atm. Off I go to sleep too. If you reply I'll get back to you tomorrow <3

The audience can quickly learn who everyone is from watching the movie. As I said, everything you need to know about Padme is presented in 3. She's Anakins wife, she's preggers, and she's going to die. The audience can see Anakins fall from this alone due to the fact he's willing to do anything to save her. The Clone Wars were mentioned in ANH, the republic preceded the empire, all of the troopers sound the same, they all look the same, they're called clones in the movie. It's not that confusing. Your website is assuming that everyone is retarded.

There is a difference from just telling someone something, and then seeing their relationships actually evolve. That's why I say 2 is essential in it. Same with the clones. It's rather stupid to just say "Oh they're there to help" when the movie in 3 doesn't explain them at all.

You say the website is assuming everyone is retarded, but you also assume everyone will know who's who at the mention of a name and what they do.
