Not really that much of le gamer any more so if it keeps me entertained for longer than a couple weeks then I've got my money's worth.

Movies are another story because I enjoy them for a variety of different reasons. I enjoy meticulously crafted films just as I enjoy movies designed for pure entertainment purposes if done with a modicum of thought put behind them. A lot of people seem to put themes above enjoyment value but if the movie is just one giant pedestal for the director's opinions then the actual film making takes a backseat and detracts from the overall experience. To me, a good film knows when to equipoise it's material with entertainment value.

It's a tie between Danny Boyle and Scorsese.

What do you think about Brian De Palma?
I liked Untouchables and Carlito's Way but I'm honestly not that familiar with his work.

Not sure what, I mean I can enjoy watching Aladdin, Toy Story, Inception, Pacific Rim, Scott Pilgrim and other movies that all have different things that are important to them. I mean some have phenomenal story telling while others don't.

I personally think the reasoning will be stupid and vague but I can just say how true the movie is to itself and does it offer what it sets out to do.

Same for games.

good point

i changed my bottom tier to the following:

Setting/world = Customization = Graphics = Frame rate = Boring technical aspects = Historical accuracy = Premise

because i equally don't care about any of these things in re: a game's overall quality

In order of necessity

Games;

Story
Characters  (design is minor, but needs good writing and voice acting if the game has it.)
Gameplay (a game can look horrible, but if it plays great as seen its very forgivable)
Framerate (ties into gameplay in a sense, a game can look beautiful, but if it chugs and jumps itll ruin the experience)
Design (theme, artstyle, setting and OST)
Graphical fidelity

Dont care if a game looks dated, if it has a greay story and plays great then Ill like it.

I can only imagine that people who favor story over gameplay tend to get disappointed a whole lot.

In this day and age, yeah.

I get enjoyment out of a game with good gameplay. But a good story keeps me coming back wanting more, makes it satisfying to get attached to a world. But its becoming harder to find with the increasing amount of shovelware being released.

Yeah, but it's fun to critique the story and think about how to make it better.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Honestly I'm not picky at all when it comes to games. As long as I'm entertained it doesn't matter if it's a hand holding interactive movie or a game that has a shit story and awesome gameplay. Depends on my mood.

As for movies, I can appreciate fluff but I prefer movies that make you think. Open ended movies are my favorite, anything that doesn't hold you hand and allows you to come up with theories on the ending/reasoning behind character actions.

Comedy is the one category of film I have next to no particulars about. I thoroughly enjoyed Deadpool and the new Ghostbusters movie even though they didn't exactly have engaging stories. I also love horrible horror movies.

It's like a b movie. It's trash, but it has a certain charm I can't deny.

Games

Good Setting/ Worldbuilding/ Lore (Including scientific accuracy in a space game or historical accuracy in a history game) > Art Style/ Aesthetic > Good game mechanics > Story > Characters > Consistent frame rate.

I mean, mechanics I enjoy a lot can make up for worse storytelling (EG Fallout 4) and for me, a good art style can pretty much let me ignore a game's technical or gameplay faults (Titanfall 1 or Halo Reach). But I do love exploring and learning about worlds that are well-written and designed with consistency and scientific accuracy -  stuff like why an alien race is invading earth for water when there's a shit ton more floating around in space bothers me. I enjoy picking apart the faults in futuristic tanks and stuff. Similarly, Metro 2033 was a very clunky shooter, but I love the world and atmosphere of the game so I can ignore that aspect of the game.

Stuff like appreciation for little details (Like in Titanfall 2, where you can see Lastimosa loading the Smart Pistol into his Titan at the start that you end up using in the final mission) and whatnot are nice but never deal breakers.

Also i value a replayable campaign much more than a long one. Halo 5 had 15 missions but I can safepy say I never want to touch it again, but Titanfall 2 has 8 or 9 and I'm always going back to replay the missions because of how good the gameplay and level design are.

For Films I just want consistent writing and plots that make sense. If a character(s) are not doing the option that would be logical and easiest, I want to know why. By that same logic, I appreciate well-thought out or at least good looking designs. Avatar is hardly a very deep film or whatever but I fucking adore the designs of the spaceship, the mechs and the general equipment employed by the RDA. Good fight or battle scenes can also win me over even if the characterisation is worse (Scarif in Rogue One for example). But a bad battle scene (Hobbit 3) is just boring.

I guess it just comes down to that I like Scifi and fantasy settings with good worldbuilding. Bonus points awarded for logical designs of spacecraft, equipment, castles etc. If it has good art direction and a setting that makes me intrigued I'll be willing to overlook some stuff. I just like the technical aspects of them.

I love you, son.
For games it depends on the genre. In RPGs I always value story and characters over gameplay, whereas it's the other way around for shooters although story is generally still pretty high.

If you know, you know.
Ah, depends.

For example, I saw Pacific Rim yesterday and I could tell the writing is SecondClass-tier, but then I switched my attention to the effects and designs. Which looked cool and the fight scenes made me wish I saw this on a big screen when it came out.

Movies can be smart and pretty
Ugly but very clever
Beautiful looking, but stupid AF

The flat-out bad ones are not interesting in either of those.

Finished it babe. Was tremendously enjoyable due to its gameplay and the sheer content it had available. But I felt so disconnected from the game, like the guy I was playing was just a shadow, finding the memories of the dead and gone (but that was probably the intent). I needed more rich story telling then memories and a few locals who needed help slaying a huge metal beast.

Not to mention the build up very swiftly ended. No twists or turns. Just an objective and an end. It looks like it sets up a story right at the end, then credits. It is an excellent game, but not the best story Ive been told.
