Personally, I stop laughing at jokes if the show laughs at them too. Annoying.

It's based on the idea that it's a lot easier to laugh when you're with company than if you're alone. Which is true.

But laugh tracks tend to fail when it comes to emulating the experience of watching with a live audience--especially when you become self-aware of the fact that they're laughing a little bit too hard when the jokes really aren't that funny.

I used to laugh into the TV during quiet moments as a kid because I thought it was recording everybody who was watching it at the time, and playing it back to all audience members.

Frankly a lot of shows need it, but I feel like it detracts from shows when its overused, or when the show is actually funny.
