I originally had this long-ass essay written up about this, but then I realized that I could just summarize this all in a few sentences... <_< I like to overdramatize things, especially if they're about me.
Well, as of today, Ramadan has officially ceased. I made it. I can start eating at decent times, I can mouth off all I want to, and I don't have to pray to Allah six times a day or whatever.
So what did I learn from it?
Well, two things:
- Jack shit
- Fuck all
Okay, nah. There actually were a couple of things that I gathered from the experience.
- A slightly greater appreciation for food (pretty much a given)
- A degree of self-control and discipline
- People tend to respect me more if I'm not saying "fuck" every other sentence.
At its core, the purpose of Ramadan is to exhibit in oneself a degree of self-control, and to strive to be a positive contributor to your community, eg. be the best person you can be, and all that junk. I think I've succeeded, for the most part--both online and offline.
Would I do it again?... Probably not, but we'll see, I guess.
I wouldn't recommend it for... anyone. That goes for any Islamic activity, to be honest.
But uh, yeah, I guess that's it. Happy eid.
