I've been reading the Sword of Truth books with my wife over the past year, and by god is it a fucking miserable experience. The first book is a spectacular story as a standalone, but after the third it just keeps slogging on and on. I personally wouldn't have continued if she weren't adamant that we might as well since they were a gift. Here we are on Omen Machine and I'm kinda just done with TK's filler and endless reiterations.

I've been currently going through Phillip K. Dick and Harlan Ellison's works as of late. Finished off all of Lovecraft's works a couple of weeks ago, and The Colour Out of Space and At the Mountains of Madness are by far the two I most adore.

I also plan on reading through all of the Tolkien books again once the Game-Mania running through me subsides.

All Quiet on the Western Front will probably remain my favourite singular book of all time, though.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
A 1974 edition of Penguin Political Leaders; Mao Tse Tsung. It's dry and boring.

Flashman and the Tiger. A lot more interesting, buuut a lot more about saving Austrian Emperors and railing noble broads than I would want in a book.

Next one is gonna be The Ascent of Rum Doodle, it's supposed to be good but I bought my copy because it had a nice fictional map on it.

Would ya believe me if I told you it's been at least a couple years since I read any books? Sucks in earnest, I just pick something up and then drop it. Don't seem to have the enthusiasm I used to.

Didn't get my long winded writing from nowhere. I was the fag at the back of the bus for reading asimov and heinlein, tolkein and such when I was a fat little bastard of a kid.

I'm surprised you put reading past some of the folk here, barring the possibility that you were being half sarcastic.

i'm about to read Dune, which i planned on having read before the movie came out, but i never got around to it—this turned out to be fine, though, because i guess the movie doesn't cover the entire story anyway

i don't want to read the entire novel yet—i only want to read as far as the movie goes into it (which i haven't seen, so i'm gonna have to look that up somehow)

that way, if i'm ever discussing the movie with people, i won't have to hold my tongue about what happens, or risk accidentally spoiling shit for them

that said, i was never much one for sci-fi shit, so my expectations are actually pretty low

Signature goes here.
I don't know why but I just can not bring myself to finish a book. I'll get to the last 50 pages or so and I'll just drop it entirely and never pick it up again. Not like I wasn't enjoying myself; I don't know what to say on the matter.

I have been lacking lately after I got knee deep into The Gulag Archipelago. There's still several quotes I want to add to the thread I made; the fact that this isn't taught in schools is practically a crime. You know the world's gone upside down when Putin is the one making this required reading in Russian schools.

I’ve got 5 audible credits I need to spend before I can stop my subscription if anybody has some good non fiction recommendations.

Off-topic but it’s quite the grift they’ve got going. I don’t want to lose my credits, but also don’t want to spend them on something I’ll never read, so I just continue to get charged $15 a month.
