Do you know what a 3d printer is? Then you understand that for that to work you need to first make the thing a reality.

As far as I'm concerned, we can't do much with amino acids seeing as how we don't fully understand our DNA and its properties (mostly its properties).

It sounds completely redundant now, but so would the concept of a smart phone if you brought it back to the 80s.

Nah, I can see it happening. You don't have to fully understand something for it to work. If you poke on something in a  certain way and it gives you a result, you have the method and the result. If one wants to achieve that result, one pokes it in the place.
