What I watched: Fight Club.
What I expected: Mindless dudebro comedy with a lot of Brad Pitt fanservice.
What I got: An ingenious and stylish psychological thriller; my favorite film of all time.

(there's still some brad pitt fanservice tho, but it wasn't as gratuitous as i anticipated)

I like Fight Club but I kind of feel they hamfisted the anti consumerist message too much. American Psycho deals with the effects of consumerism in a much more subtle way.

Still a good film though.

I think it's about what mindless consumerism and conformity does to a person's psyche. At the end it's left up to interpretation of whether he actually did do all those things or whether it's all in his head because he's fucked up mentally.

I'll need to do one of these.

Also fight club was the perfect movie for that chart. At least it's the first thing that came to mind for me.
