I'm not calling anything racial here, but he was a white guy in the books. Idris is an amazing actor, and his characters fit Roland... But... I'm confused here. He wasn't a brother in the books.

Not as big of a deal as you guys will inevitably make it out to be, but yeah, there's no reason for the sudden race flop. But if Idris wants to play a a character from a book series, denying him that based on race alone feels messed up.

I'm torn on this. Only because his race is central to the story with Odette/Detta. I think he'll be dead on portraying Roland's single minded devotion to his quest. Idris plays roles that show men of a singular mind. That's required for Roland. But this hints at changing the story.
