UK to NFL: Change the Redskins name or don't come here

The Washington Redskins are due to play an exhibition game in the UK. At least they were. The UK says that the team's name is racist and they won't allow them to come with the current name.

Thoughts on this?

I'm sure you can find a much better name than "Redskins" anyway. I wonder if this will finally compelle the Comish to put more pressure on the owner who says he has "native american friends" (anyone who says "I have *insert race I'm insulting* friends" is almost always racist).

In fact, lemme ask you, have any government officials from the UK released anything stating that this opinion is not the official stance of the UK?

Man, I see it this way, somebody who represents a government has sent somebody a letter, they did not just call them or anything, they put that shit in writing, and that letter has stated that if the team comes to their country, there could be legal ramifications unless they change their name.

To me, unless somebody else has issued a statement saying that's not the stance of the government at large, that sounds like the opinion of their government.

Now, I don't know if anybody from the UK government has said that isn't necessarily true; somebody very well may have. But if they haven't, you don't quite get off saying that they can't be taken seriously.
