What's your actual experience with people who have Down Syndrome/Autism?

A lot. There's a place in my area that recycles inustrial waste from wood mills. The whole place is run by folks like that, except for the core staff, which are the people responsible for watching over everybody.

In my personal experience, honestly, I like them better than normal people. I know that the staff who work that mill are people with lesser degrees of the disease, and of course, people with higher forms of it are harder to work with. And I mean, anybody with it is hard to work with, I guess.

But they're genuinely nice people. They're actually innocent.

I roll up there and if they see me they wave every time. And they're happy about it. And that's what makes them innocent. It's not that they're dumb. But they're simplistic. They have the full range of human emotions and instincts, but due to the way their head is wired, it's all very..... simple.

There was another fellow I met on one of my appointments in the hospital not too long ago. Could tell he had something. But he loved movies. And he loved talking about movies. And it was something refreshing to me, to see somebody so happy. I mean, this guy, seriously loved movies.

What's sad to me though, is that a lot of them had hard times. The ones at the mill in my area, some of them, had really hard times. They're often mistreated poorly by people. As I've heard some stories told to me by the manager of that mill, who is also a really damn good person.

I make a note to myself. I try to treat those folks with the utmost respect and care when I meet them.

I see you got the good side of them.

Yeah, usually people with autism are sweet and innocent....usually. However mental issues hinder them from ever being capable of acting what could be called "normal". Singling them out and attacking them.

I give my brother a LOT of shit, a LOT. However if anyone else would dare do the same i'd sucker punch them. One of my favorite quotes say this

"Nobody messes with us but us."

You'll see me defending my autistic bro any day.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
My BFF when I was little had aspergers.
9yo twins with autism stole MK8 from me, and their mother had to forcibly take it back from them to give it back.
Cousin twice removed has autism, you can't say "goodbye" or any variation to him or he'll have a tantrum.

hey
My form class in high school was located in the school's Learning Support Centre, since our form teacher was one of the teachers in that building. So I got to see a lot of people with all sorts of disabilities. A lot of them were actually really, really nice and it was great to see how my form class just treated them completely normally. Didn't see them get bullied or teased, which was interesting. I guess people weren't really allowed in the building though, we were just special

I have an autistic nephew.

He's loud, communicates with more noises than words, has strange dietary habits, and is obsessed with Smash Brothers.

While hard on my ears and patience at times he's got that charm in his innocence. Can't not love him.

At my old work this downs kid used to come in regularly and play with my tie and name badge.

Swear I could've knocked the fucker out, but his dad always accompanied him. Plus there's every chance I could've lost my job assaulting a downs.

I didn't talk about the "bad" ones I've met either. Like I said. I've seen the good ones enough to respect them for who they are. And it's from them that I understand that I can't neccessarily be too harsh on the bad ones I've met either.

Doesn't mean anything fam. Mother made me get tested freshman year of highschool, the psych lold at that pretty hard.

She just sees a symptom or two; deciding that it's autism before diagnosing it properly is like deciding you have bronchitis over a few coughs.

Well, I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome as a child. It's not something I really think about too much.
