T4R. Even if you never plan on owning a gun, if ever come across one, it's incalculably beneficial to your well-being if you know how to handle the thing.

I remember when a gun instructor let a little 8 year old girl use an Uzi. It would've been fine of he let it stay on single fire mode or whatever it's called.

I don't think this is proper natural selection. It is an accident resulting from a lack of proper firearms education. Thousands of other firearms related deaths are because of the same, and I'm sure most aren't as stupid as putting a gun to your head.

Slightly related, I think widespread and easily accessible firearms safety courses are one of the few items where "think of the children" is actually a valid reason for support.

I was thinking more like standard in high schools but that would work too. They should have a little booth at gun shops with a television playing a short firearms safety course that you have to watch before buying a gun. I also think the course should have examples of what can happen to you and those around you if you're not careful with your gun.

Why? That's a pretty emotional response to this issue. Only the tiniest fraction of all gun violence is committed with "assault rifles" while hand guns and semi-auto's are the most common culprit.

And most murders in the first place aren't even committed with guns, so I don't see what your point is. Pistols kill more than assault rifles because, as DAS said, pretty much no one can buy assault rifles, while pistols are much more obtainable.

My ideal world would have much less gun violence. Someone tries to shoot up a mall? He's gunned down in less than thirty seconds. Believe it or not, most people aren't psychopaths, and arming everyone would make it that much easier to take one down when he shows himself.

People will always make bad decisions, but we still have the chance to reduce the amount of those bad decisions through education.

It doesn't matter what mode it is on if that thing as kick to it the kid can still hurt themselves if they're not strong enough to handle the recoil. Even on semi the thing can kick up at them or whoever and they may pull the trigger.

there is nothing wrong with letting a child use a gun if they are being responsibly taught how to care and use it. the instructor made a mistake making it go on full auto mode and that cost him his life.
