Hand guards on a real sword don't cut your hand off if you brush against them.

In Star Wars Legacy those Imperial Knights to have gauntlets that are light saber resistant but that type of metal might be rare or hard to make.
It's impractical
It's impractical and looks retarded, and the lightsaber doesn't even glow right. It looks like a lighter about to whimper out
Look closely, there is an inch or two of the hilt that is part of the lightsaber handle, unless he's a total clumsy cunt then I don't see a problem. I rather like the new design, it looks like a sci fi bastard sword, not a super long glowstick.
How would they work as a hand guard though, if another lightsaber blade comes down on it, it would just slice through the emitter that is producing these hand guard things. There is metal in star wars immune to lightsabers of course, but then it would just be easier to make the handguards entirely out of that metal anyway.

The eye visors are way too limited. The visor should be the same size as the one on the helmet the Master Chief wears.

the new saber is autisticly retardedly super homo fag nigger gay
I know what they are there for but you'd have to have a pretty good grip to make sure you didn't accidentally roast your fingers on it ._.

You have to remember that using a sword like that would require a difference in tactics such as more power attacks/ slower more methodical ways of fighting.
